SCOTT launches the Fastlane, the most stylish and lightweight road eBike in its history
Road bike manufacturers continue to surpass themselves when launching eBike models capable of overcoming the reluctance of cyclists in a discipline that is always anchored in the known and not very open to technological innovations. A clear example is this new SCOTT Fastlane, a road bike with assistance that, at first glance, is very difficult to differentiate from a traditional bike but hides enough power to allow us to enjoy the toughest routes without losing that feeling of pedaling on a true bicycle.

While in the world of mountain biking, electric bikes are fully established and have long ceased to be viewed with the resentment that equated them to motorcycles, the world of road cycling is still making its way, relying on a very different concept, with assistance that is as non-intrusive as possible in the pedaling and a handling of the bike that hardly differs from a conventional bike, but at the same time generates a help that is palpable, especially when traversing mountainous terrain.
A recipe that manufacturers are achieving with bikes featuring elaborate frames that do not renounce any of the solutions created for their reference conventional models and lightweight, silent motors that present minimal friction when speed exceeds 25 km/h and assistance must cease.

These premises have been successfully included by SCOTT in its new Fastlane to create a bike that, at first glance, could easily be confused with its aerodynamic Foil RC and that, however, hides in its TQ HPR40 motor the necessary assistance to enjoy a day in the high mountains even when our physical condition would not allow us to even dream of ascending certain passes.

SCOTT builds its Fastlane around a meticulously crafted frame made of HMX carbon, which until recently was reserved solely for competition frames due to its excellent combination of stiffness and lightness. In fact, the frame weighs just 865 grams, a top-level figure. Just like in the Foil model, from which the Fastlane inherits some of its design lines, this new creation from SCOTT also features elaborate aerodynamics aimed at reducing energy expenditure, which is more important in an electric bike, making it easier to reach the 25 km/h at which the motor cuts off, thus optimizing battery life to achieve greater autonomy from its 290 Wh battery.

The lightness of the frame is complemented by the TQ HPR40 motor, and when we add the top-of-the-line equipment of the Fastlane, with a Shimano Dura-Ace setup, we have an electric bike that weighs under 10 kg, which ultimately will have its impact on a behavior much more similar to that of a conventional road bike, partly also due to the subtle assistance provided by the barely 40 Nm that the motor is capable of delivering.
SCOTT's integration work stands out, making the electrical system completely unobtrusive. There are no flashy displays or buttons. The charging port is discreetly concealed on the motor, in the junction area between the diagonal and seat tubes.

Meanwhile, its power button and LED indicators for battery level and selected mode are located in the space that would occupy one of the handlebar plugs, while the other plug is occupied by a useful multi-tool. The integration of the electrical system is completed by connecting it directly to the Di2 group, which dispenses with the Shimano battery to draw power from the main one, with the bike having a single battery. The TQ HPR40 electrical system can also be linked to our cycle computer via ANT+. Speaking of integration, SCOTT also includes a useful rear light integrated into the seat post, which is also powered by the bike's electrical system.
