With the arrival of autumn, one of the most interesting times for cycling begins, but probably the most complicated when it comes to choosing what to wear. Temperatures drop, rain and wind return, and above all, conditions can change completely in just a few kilometers.

It’s easy to start a climb feeling cold and end up trying to open your jacket to release as much heat as possible. And just facing a long descent is enough to find humidity, wind, and a body temperature that drops rapidly, making it difficult to maintain control of the bike.

It is precisely on days like this when a good technical garment stops being an accessory and becomes an important part of the equipment. It’s not just about isolating more, but finding the balance between protection, breathability, and the ability to adapt to very different efforts and conditions.

Santini has just presented its FW26/27 collection with this idea as one of its axes. And within it, we find a particularly interesting selection of garments developed with Polartec Power Shield Pro, Power Shield RPM, and Power Wool technologies, with offerings ranging from an ultracompact waterproof vest to jackets designed to tackle full days of cold and rain. 

Santini Magic and Magic Plus: a layer of protection that can always fit in your pocket

There are garments designed to be used throughout the ride and others whose main value lies precisely in being forgotten until they are needed. The Santini Magic vest belongs to the second group.

This is an extremely lightweight waterproof vest that can be folded into its own rear pocket, making it ideal for those days when the weather can’t make up its mind.

Santini uses Polartec Power Shield RPM for its construction, featuring an elastic membrane made of recycled polyester that achieves 10,000 mm of water column and maintains a high level of breathability. Both the fabric and the water-repellent treatment are PFAS-free.

The seams are completely thermos sealed, and the construction includes a double-slider front zipper, high collar, elongated back, and reflective elements. These are particularly interesting details in a garment designed to be pulled out of the pocket when it starts to rain or before facing a cold descent.

For those who need more serious protection, Santini has the new Magic Plus Waterproof Jacket.

Here the approach changes. We are no longer looking at a lightweight layer to solve a sudden change in weather, but rather a waterproof jacket prepared for considerably more demanding conditions.

The main upgrade comes with Polartec Power Shield Pro, which elevates the waterproofing to 20,000 mm of water column. Santini also adds a collar lined with Polartec Power Wool and three rear pockets, thus maintaining the functionality expected from a jacket specifically designed for cycling. 

The Magic range and the vest will be available in cappuccino, black, and violet colors, while the new Magic Plus will come in black.

Power Shield Pro All-Weather: when a jersey and a jacket start to look alike

Probably one of the most interesting offerings in the new collection is the Santini Power Shield Pro All-Weather. Especially because it addresses one of the common problems with winter clothing: achieving a lot of protection without ending up using an excessively bulky or uncomfortable garment when the pace increases.

Santini presents this jacket practically as a middle ground between both categories. It has a fitted and aerodynamic cut similar to that of a jersey, but incorporates the protection against the elements that we expect from a winter jacket.

To achieve this, Polartec Power Shield Pro reappears, in this case with a membrane containing 48% bio-based content and PFAS-free treatment. Its waterproofing reaches 20,000 mm of water column, while the high breathability aims to facilitate the evacuation of excess heat generated during exertion.

This balance is especially important on the bike. A jacket can provide perfect protection on a descent and yet become a small sauna as soon as the next climb begins. The ability to evacuate moisture and regulate ventilation ends up being almost as important as the waterproofing itself.

That’s why Santini also incorporates a waterproof double-slider zipper, which allows for adjustment during exertion. A rear pocket with a waterproof zipper and reflective details complete a garment that will be available in violet, cappuccino, black, and military green.

Redux Power Wool for when the problem is the cold

Not all autumn and winter days require a waterproof barrier. For cold days when the priority is to maintain a comfortable temperature, Santini proposes the Redux Power Wool.

The brand sets its usage range between 5 and 15 °C, and here another Polartec technology takes center stage.

Power Wool combines wool and synthetic fibers aiming to leverage the thermoregulating qualities and softness of the former along with the breathability and odor resistance provided by the synthetic part.

Santini again maintains a fitted pattern but adds a windproof panel on the chest with DWR treatment without PFAS to provide protection against humidity and light rain. Thermo-sealed cuffs and hem, three rear pockets, and reflective elements complete the garment, available in black.
