The Shimano Super Cup Massi La Nucía 2025 has kicked off the international XCO season with victories by Sam Gaze and Tamara Wiedman. Spanish rider David Valero, with the BH Coloma Team, has been one of the main protagonists in the men's race and managed to get on the podium.

Canadian Cole Punchard, national U23 champion and one of the new signings for Cannondale Factory Racing, was the first to play the surprise card, taking the lead from the start. However, the men's race in La Nucía featured a large number of top international favorites, and from the first lap we could see riders like Samuel Gaze, Simon Andreassen, Maximilian Brandl, Sebastian Fini, Pierre de Froidmont, David Valero, Jofre Cullel, and David Campos in the top positions.
After some early moves, the race took a new turn when New Zealander Samuel Gaze put in a hard acceleration in the third of six laps. Only German Maximilian Brandl, a recent signing for Lapierre Racing Unity, could follow his wheel, and from that moment on they took control with a 20-second lead over the chasing group.

Behind them, Sebastian Fini, Jofre Cullel, and David Valero worked together to try to catch the leading duo. However, with a lap and a half to go, as the chasing group started to close in on the leaders, Sam Gaze launched a new attack on a tough climb. It seemed decisive and allowed him to open up a 16-second gap to Brandl in just a quarter of a lap.
Some of the initial protagonists were left behind, like young Cole Punchard who suffered a chain break, or Simon Andreassen, who fell back from podium positions after two crashes.
The final lap saw Sam Gaze cross the finish line first at the Shimano Super Cup Massi La Nucía 2025. Second place went to Maximilian Brandl and David Valero closed out the podium with a strong final attack that saw him pass his teammate Jofre Cullel.
