This is Roglic's S-Works Tarmac for 2024. Can Specialized win a Tour 10 years later?
The 2024 season kicks off with Primoz Roglic, who has already confirmed that he will focus his efforts on winning the Tour de France, already unveiling his new weapon, the Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 that Bora-Hansgrohe has carefully assembled so that the Slovenian is in a position to win the grand tour that is missing from his record.
Specialized and Primoz Roglic set their sights on the 2024 Tour
As the 2024 season is just beginning, teams and brands are still presenting the equipment they will use throughout the campaign. The latest to do so have been Bora-Hansgrohe, actually SRAM, who in an interesting video show us the assembly process of the Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 that Primoz Roglic will use throughout this season.
A Primoz Roglic who focuses his 2024 season, at least the first half, on a clear objective: victory in the Tour de France, for which he has set a tight schedule that leaves no room for distraction. The Slovenian will only compete in Paris-Nice, Itzulia and Dauphiné before facing the Tour.
RECOMENDADO
A desire for victory that he shares with Specialized, the brand that has been supplying bikes to Bora-Hansgrohe since 2015, and which has not managed to win the Grande Boucle since it did so with Vincenzo Nibali in 2014. Since then, first the chain of victories of the Sky/INEOS by the hand of Froome, Thomas and Bernal, followed by Pogacar's double and these last two years with the dominance of Jumbo have deprived the Morgan Hill firm of the most desired victory for a bicycle brand.
The machine that Primoz Roglic will use for this assault on the Tour de France is very similar to the production model that we can buy in stores, mounting the complete Specialized kit with its components and Roval wheels. The most novel aspect of this assembly is the change in the groups, with Bora-Hansgrohe switching to SRAM after traditionally mounting Shimano, groups that are well known to the Slovenian after having used them in Jumbo-Visma, and which almost frustrated his victory in the 2023 Giro after an untimely chain drop in the decisive time trial. Despite using SRAM, it is striking to find Shimano pedals on Primoz Roglic's bike.
