"Road cycling is more dangerous than MTB," Pidcock confirms what many think
Tom Pidcock left some interesting reflections a few days ago in the video podcast Just Ride by Red Bull, where the British cyclist talked about the differences between the various modalities of cycling, the challenge for him of combining them, and how his Giro d'Italia has been.
Tom Pidcock shows his interest in the Red Bull Rampage on the Just Ride podcast
Interesting participation of Tom Pidcock in the video podcast Just Ride by Red Bull in a program recorded just after the end of the Giro d'Italia. A quite relaxed conversation in which the British rider touched on various topics, starting with his participation in the Giro d'Italia, which was more discreet than expected, something that Pidcock himself admitted even though he made it clear that those who had talked about him as a contender for the general classification were too optimistic.
As Tom Pidcock expressed, it takes tremendous mental capacity to maintain the necessary concentration to fight for a general classification for three weeks while subjecting the body to tremendous physical wear and tear, whereas any other cyclist, if they don't have good legs one day, simply disconnects, settles into the grupetto, and gets through the stage as best as possible.

Although it may not surprise many, Tom Pidcock also revealed his favorite discipline. A preference that leans towards Mountain Bike, a modality in which the cyclist has more control over all aspects than in road cycling. In connection with this, Pidcock referred to the danger of both sports, pointing out that "in mountain biking, you have more control over yourself while, on the road, you have 150 guys you depend on so you don't fall." He also pointed out the danger of road training where you depend on drivers, something that doesn't happen when you pedal on the trails.
Within his multidisciplinary approach, Tom Pidcock was also asked about his interest in the Red Bull Rampage, although there the British rider, jokingly, was quite clear, "just to go and watch as a spectator, no participating", a discipline that generates interest in one of the most technical cyclists in the peloton although he admits that the injuries you can sustain in that modality are serious.
Tom Pidcock also talked about his two Olympic gold medals, making it clear that he will try to achieve the third consecutive one at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 "I have more chances in mountain biking than on the road. In road cycling, there are 20 cyclists capable of winning but in mountain bike, at the Olympics, the number is reduced to about three" also pointing out that in road cycling you depend on more factors while in mountain biking the races are more consistent.
