Van der Poel presents his road calendar for September, will he return to cyclocross?

The Alpecin Fenix has just announced the upcoming races in which Jasper Philipsen and world champion Mathieu van der Poel will be participating. A full calendar for the month of September in which Van der Poel includes the European Championships and the World Championships.

Without more information, these could be the last road races for Mathieu van der Poel this year, as after the Zurich World Championships he could start a vacation period to reflect on his schedule for the next season and consider whether to return to cyclocross or not.

The 2024 season has not gone as planned for the current world champion and even during the Paris Olympics he admitted regretting not competing in mountain biking in an attempt to focus on the Tour de France where his performance was ultimately very discreet. In that sense, it is now difficult to anticipate what Van der Poel's next moves will be since at the beginning of the year he hinted that he might not compete in cyclocross anymore, but that could have changed.

"Cyclocross takes a lot of energy from me and I'm not just talking about the race, but everything around it. It's not a decision I can make on my own."
