Reserve steps up to 32-inch wheels with its new carbon XC wheelsets
The 32-inch wheels continue to advance towards their consolidation in competitive MTB. Reserve has just introduced the new 30 XC 32", one of the first sets of carbon wheels of this diameter to reach the commercial catalog of a major manufacturer. Its launch represents another important step for a standard that we have mainly seen in World Cup prototypes until now.
Reserve launches its first 32-inch wheels for XC: 1,911 grams and a price of 1,799 euros
Throughout the 2026 season, we have seen how 32-inch wheels have become one of the most important developments in XCO. Teams like SCOTT, Trek, Thömus, or CUBE have tested bikes with this diameter, but a significant part of the component industry was still missing in offering specific products.
Reserve has just made progress in this regard with the launch of the 30|XC 32-inch wheels, carbon wheels intended for competitive XC and trail that are already part of its catalog alongside the conventional 29" version.

The brand has redesigned and reinforced its structure to try to maintain the stiffness and response of its 29-inch wheels, compensating for the larger dimensions with a specific construction.
The goal is to take advantage of the benefits that Reserve attributes to larger wheels, especially their ability to overcome obstacles, maintain speed over uneven terrain, and increase grip, without losing too much precision in handling.
A 28 mm profile and 30 mm internal width to maintain stiffness
One of the most relevant differences compared to the 30|XC 29-inch wheels is in the construction of the rim itself.
While the 29" model uses a 19 mm height profile, the new 32" increases that measurement to 28 mm. This is an important modification with which Reserve seeks to maintain the balance between lateral and vertical stiffness despite the increase in diameter.

The internal width remains at 30 mm, with 37 mm external, a configuration designed to provide good tire support and enhance the stability of its sides. For this new version, Reserve recommends tires between 2 and 2.4 inches.

A configuration of 28 spokes per wheel, using Sapim D-Light spokes and Secure Lock nipples is also maintained. The complete builds incorporate DT Swiss 350 hubs with Degree of Freedom technology, Boost standard, and six-bolt disc mounting.
Weight is the main sacrifice: almost 300 grams more than the 29"
The most striking figure of the new Reserve 30|XC is probably its weight. The manufacturer declares 1,911 grams for the complete set of 32 inches, including tubeless rim tape, Fillmore valves, and SRAM XD core. The front wheel weighs 882 grams and the rear 1,029 grams.

As a reference, the Reserve 30|XC 29-inch wheels with DT Swiss 350 hubs have a declared weight of 1,615 grams. This represents a difference of 296 grams between both wheel sets.
The weight of the rims separately is also significant. In the new 32", each one reaches 523 grams, compared to the 400 grams declared for the standard 29" rim.
This increase makes clear one of the main challenges of the new diameter. A larger wheel requires more material to achieve the necessary stiffness and strength, which can penalize accelerations and changes of pace.

The question is whether the greater ease of overcoming obstacles, grip, and the ability to maintain speed will compensate for that weight increase on real XCO circuits. In fact, the telemetry data collected during tests with 32-inch MTBs already points to that combination of advantages and compromises.
