Pogacar caught with a new time trial bike

Nowadays, it is complicated for bike brands to keep the secret of their new developments. Even more so if the brand in question is called Colnago and the cyclist testing its latest prototype is a certain Tadej Pogacar, who was recently seen pedaling on a time trial bike with a completely black frame that would suggest a new chrono machine from the Cambiago brand.

If at the beginning of last year the talk was about the first aerodynamic road bike created by Colnago, which later transformed, thanks to its great performance, into the unique bike of the UAE Team Emirates, even for tackling the high mountain stages of the Tour de France or the grueling World Championship in Kigali, both events where Tadej Pogacar would end up winning on that innovative Y1Rs, it now seems that it is time for the renewal of the Italian brand's time trial bike.

The current chrono model, the Colnago TT1, dates back to 2022 when it debuted in that season's Giro d'Italia. Since then, both the characteristics of time trial bikes and the UCI regulations regarding the design of aerodynamic frames have been changing, so after 4 years, it is time to have a new bike that fully takes advantage of all the improvements in knowledge, materials, regulations, etc.

And it seems we won't have to wait long to see a new Colnago time trial bike competing for the best time. At least, that is what can be inferred from the posts that have appeared on Instagram, where the Slovenian cyclist is seen on a new chrono machine with a frame that has no identifying marks to reveal its origin.

A prototype that, at first glance and with the few published images, is difficult to differentiate from the current bike, but if we look more closely, we can sense that, apart from the necessary tweaks in the tube profiles, the sections of the tubes seem to be more streamlined, or in other words, Colnago would have sought a significant weight reduction in this new bike to adapt to current time trials where it is not uncommon for organizers to throw in some traps in the form of climbs, all while maintaining the aerodynamics of the previous model.

A clear indication that neither Tadej Pogacar nor his team have rested on their laurels when planning this new season and that they will have a weapon with the latest innovations for a Tour de France where the fight against the clock is expected to be very important, with two time trial stages: the initial team time trial on the streets of Barcelona and the individual 26-kilometer time trial that will take place in stage 16. Besides, who knows if Tadej Pogacar will try to reclaim, especially after the humiliation suffered in Kigali when he was overtaken by Remco Evenepoel, the World Time Trial Championship, one of those must-haves in his endless palmarès.
