Pidcock's departure is complicated. Are they doomed to understand each other?
The Pidcock saga continues with a new twist that could leave things as they are. The latest information suggests that the negotiation for his departure from INEOS may have broken down and the British rider will have to stay with the team and fulfill his contract until 2027.
Pidcock and INEOS may have to mend their relationship
Irish journalist Daniel Benson has exclusively revealed the latest news about Tom Pidcock and his possible departure from INEOS.
It is worth remembering that after the Paris Olympics, rumors about Tom Pidcock's possible departure from the INEOS team began to surface. A very unusual situation considering the British rider has a contract until 2027 and a salary of 4 million euros per year which places him among the highest-paid cyclists in the world.
Shortly after, it was revealed that the relationship between the cyclist and the team was deteriorating, with INEOS leaving him out of Lombardia after he had been selected, and it seemed that both parties intended to go their separate ways. The problem continued to be the mega-contract that kept them together and the 12 million euro clause that would need to be paid for Pidcock to leave the team prematurely.

It was recently assumed that a possible transfer of Pidcock to the Swiss team Q36.5 was imminent, even if it meant the cyclist had to move down to a Continental team.
However, everything seems to have fallen apart in the last 48 hours after an advanced exit negotiation broke down, in which INEOS Grenadiers had even been willing to pay part of Pidcock's salary at another team.
We will see what happens in the coming weeks because it is not common for so much information to be disclosed about these types of operations in cycling, and in the last hours there were also talks of a possible mediation by Red Bull for the team TUDOR Pro Cycling Team to make an offer to sign Pidcock.
If no alternative is ultimately pursued, INEOS and Thomas Pidcock will have the difficult task of mending their relationship for the good of both parties.
