Tom Pidcock talks about the turbulence with his current team and sets goals for 2025
The place was at the Rouleur Live gala held this Thursday in London. It is one of the major cycling events in the UK and Tom Pidcock attended as an ambassador of his own platform Link my Ride. But being the best British cyclist of the moment, he surely knew he would have to take the stage to be interviewed by the presenter and former cyclist Matt Stephens.
During the conversation, Pidcock did not shy away from controversy and openly spoke about the situation with his team: "It's true, we've had a difficult year, I've had a difficult year. It's not what we wanted, but I see many positive changes and, of course, everyone accepts that there will be difficulties when you make changes and we are seeing those changes happen. I hope we can turn it around."

His and the team's performance in the past Tour were the trigger for starting to demand responsibilities in the structure:
"It was difficult... I didn't win any stages, the team didn't have the success it used to have and it was difficult. I need to try to find the sensations I had before. Enjoying and feeling like I'm part of the race. I think that partly created the expectations to grow in recent years and I didn't meet them for a multitude of reasons."
"Expectations grew and I didn't meet them for a multitude of reasons and that's not nice, you're always trying to have fun." "Everything I've been good at is because I believed in it, that I could be good at it. I don't say anything I don't believe. The last few years going to the Tour I didn't know what I wanted. It's not nice, I really want to find what I want to get out of it and be realistic." Pidcock explained.
Furthermore, he gave some hints on how one-day races could be his main goal in 2025:
"I've lost that ability, the sprint, the speed, that I had two or three years ago, and that's what I want to find again. My favorite races are the Classics, and I haven't won a Monument yet. That's where I really want to focus."
While it remains to be confirmed whether he will continue to combine road racing with some mountain bike or cyclocross races, the double Olympic medalist only hinted that he is considering competing in a CX event at Christmas and New Year's.
