The current champion of the women's Tour de France, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, has surprised by announcing that she will finally participate in the Road World Championship that will take place at the end of September in Rwanda, something she had ruled out a few days ago.

The French cyclist had communicated that she would not be present at the world event, citing physical fatigue and mental exhaustion after an intense Olympic cycle. However, her great form and more balanced management of her calendar in 2025 have led her to reverse her decision.

“I feel ready to continue giving my best, in an intelligent and thoughtful way. That's why, in consultation with my team and the French national team, we have decided that I will race the World Championship in Africa. It is an honor to be part of this adventure with my teammates,” she explained in a statement posted on her social media.

Ferrand-Prévot acknowledged that after winning the Tour she needed time to recharge and that, initially, she did not want to “demand extra efforts from an already tired body”. However, the French champion now claims to feel renewed and motivated enough to fight for the rainbow jersey.

The Visma rider will thus join the powerful French team that will seek to return to the top in a historic World Championship, the first to be held in Africa.

With this twist, Pauline humorously proclaimed herself as the “world champion of changing plans”, but the truth is that her presence makes France one of the top contenders for gold in Rwanda.
