A patent affair between Orbea and Canyon ends in the best way possible for cyclists
It is not usual for this type of agreement between bicycle brands to come to light, but this time it has been made public by the brands themselves. Canyon will use an Orbea patent and the Basque brand will use the profits from the agreement for its Trail Building project.
The agreement between Orbea and Canyon for a patent will ultimately benefit the construction and maintenance of new trails
The central issue is the patent known as Orbea's "Inside Line", a system that improves the internal cable routing of dual shock mountain bikes and makes the rear shock lockout cable better integrated and has a more direct line between the remote lockout knob and the shock itself. This Orbea patent, which can be seen on models such as the Orbea Oiz, is registered in Europe and the USA to protect the design of the system and the unique benefits it brings.
Canyon's interest in integrating the technology into its own models has resulted in an agreement between the two companies whereby Orbea will grant a partial license to Canyon. With this license, Canyon will be able to free up space in the front triangle, as well as benefiting from the other features of Inside Line.
