Orbea and the Lotto Destiny team reveal some key points in the development of the new Orca: "Weight is undeniably a critical factor"
Until very recently, it was impossible to combine aerodynamics, rigidity, comfort, and weight in a single bike, but technology has evolved and now there are bikes with a very good balance in almost everything. Even so, it is still not possible to make everything work perfectly, and in this video, different members of Orbea and Lotto Destiny give some clues about the development of the new Orca, a model that focuses everything on weight.
Weight remains crucial in climbs
In a new video from the Seeking Excellence series, Orbea shows some of the keys in the development of the new Orca and reflects on what may be the most obsessive characteristic in cycling: weight.
The Road Product Manager at Orbea, Joseba Arizaga, recalls that "in last year's Giro d'Italia, after covering more than 3000 km, the difference between the first and second in the general classification was only 14 seconds". A minimal difference that increasingly requires what are known as marginal gains.

"In an era where we are looking for marginal gains in climbs, we needed a specific solution.""To get a bike that performs well in climbs, the most important aspect is lightness. Weight is an undeniably critical factor," adds Kepa Otxoa, an engineer at Orbea.

"Having a good bike can make the difference between winning or losing. The Orbea Orca has impressed me a lot. From the moment I started testing it, it seemed very rigid and aggressive. That's what I like," says Florian Vermeersch of the Lotto Dstny team.
