The iconic mountain bike brand Nukeproof has just found some stability after a turbulent few years in which it was on the brink of disappearing. The Belgian Cycling Factory group, owner of Ridley and Eddy Merckx, among others, confirmed yesterday the acquisition of the American brand Nukeproof.

Belgian Cycling Factory acquires Nukeproof

The acquisition, announced on February 25, 2025, marks the beginning of a promising new chapter for Nukeproof. The brand, founded in 1990 in the United States, has earned a prominent place in the world of MTB, with its bikes being regulars on the podiums of the Downhill World Cup and the Enduro World Series.

The CEO and owner of BCF, Jochim Aerts, expressed his enthusiasm for this acquisition:

"Nukeproof is a brand with an incredible history, a base of loyal followers, and a reputation for manufacturing some of the most exciting mountain bikes in the world. We are committed to preserving that legacy, investing in innovation, and ensuring that both current and new cyclists continue to enjoy the best. To maintain this continuity, key members of the previous team have already joined us, bringing their experience and deep understanding of the brand's DNA. This is an exciting new chapter, and we look forward to building the future of Nukeproof together."

Nukeproof resurges after being acquired by the owner of Ridley

The recent history of Nukeproof has been marked by instability that began when its parent company, Wiggle, declared bankruptcy in 2024, leading to the dismissal of most of its staff. Subsequently, Frasers Group, owner of chains like Evans Cycles and Sports Direct, acquired Wiggle, Chain Reaction Cycles, and their internal brands, including Nukeproof.

Now, Frasers Group has decided to transfer Nukeproof to BCF, as explained by its director Russell Merry:

"We recognize the passion and dedication of Nukeproof cyclists worldwide and want to protect their legacy and ensure their future. We are delighted to pass the baton to a partner with a proven track record in innovative design, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and benchmark services. With BCF at the helm, we are confident that the brand will continue to thrive and evolve. Frasers Group will remain a staunch supporter of Nukeproof, ensuring that customers can access the bikes they love as the brand enters this exciting new era."

Nukeproof will be available through Belgian Cycling Factory's network of distributors and global partners starting in the third quarter of 2025. The addition of Nukeproof strengthens BCF's position as a leading manufacturer in the cycling world, expanding its catalog with a renowned brand in high-performance MTB.
