Nino Schurter wins the Capoliveri Legend 2023

The second round of the International Series of Italy came to the island of Elba with the Capoliveri Legend, the race chosen by the world champion Nino Schurter to open his XCO season and in which he took the victory ahead of Titouan Carod.

On the paradise island of Elba, bad weather delayed the start of the Capoliveri Legend by more than 30 minutes. Rain and hail were punishing the circuit since Friday afternoon, but the track arrived in very good condition after the sunrise and the wise wait recommended by the organization.

After a few laps the favorites did not disappoint and soon took the lead of the race. In front we could see the French champion Titouan Carod, the Swiss Nino Schurter and Andri Frischknecht or the Italians Simone Avondetto, Nadir Colledani or Daniele Braidot. The most notable withdrawals were Luca Braidot, who had to abandon the race after a week of illness, and Jordan Sarrou, who did not make it to the start after breaking his finger in training.

World champion Nino Schurter imposed his rhythm in the final stretch of the race and took charge of making a selection in which he was finally left alone. By the last lap, Schurter was leading with a 20" advantage over Carod and only then he began to ride in a conservative way.

Nino Schurter reached the finish line as winner of the Capoliveri Legend 2023 with almost 18" ahead of Titouan Carod. The podium was closed by Simone Avondetto more than 1 minute behind.

Nicole Koller wins the women's event

The women's race was an exhibition of the Swiss team that came to Elba with the best of its formation wearing the red and white colors of the Alpine nation.

From the first laps, the Swiss women took the lead with Koller, Sina Frei and Linda Indergand setting the pace alongside overall leader Martina Berta and Giada Specia. But Berta made a change of pace on the third lap that left her and Koller alone in the lead.

Nicole Koller reserved her last attack and it worked out perfectly, as it was enough to let Berta go and reach the finish line alone to win the Capoliveri Legend 2023. Martina Berta was second and Giada Specia of Wilier Pirelli closed the podium.
