New Wilier Urta Max SLR with 120mm
Wilier has just introduced the new Urta Max SLR with 120mm front and rear. The historic Italian brand has designed this new Urta with more travel than its predecessor, a geometry designed for a more racing position and a stem with a negative inclination of 27º. Prices range between 6,200 euros and 11,200 euros.
Wilier Urta Max SLR
The Italian firm has witnessed, at its 117 years, a good part of the cycling history, which has made it one of the most established manufacturers in the market. Wilier has lived from the dawn of pedals to the most contemporary and current bikes, like this new Urta Max SLR.
The Wilier Urta SLR earned a place among the XC references when Simone Avondetto won the U23 World Championship last year. And it made headlines again just a couple of months ago when Avondetto himself tested what seemed to be a prototype of the Urta Max SLR at the Internacionales de Chelva.

The suspicions then have now been confirmed with the launch of the new Wilier Urta Max SLR, which follows in the footsteps of its predecessor with a competitive XC character but is born with a suspension equipped with more travel. Wilier thus shows the weapon it has designed for the Factory Team Wilier Pirelli to face the World Cup, which starts this weekend.
One of the most important changes has been the move to 120 mm suspension front and rear (compared to the 100 mm of the previous model). Hence Wilier has baptized it as Urta Max, because it extends its travel. The system is monopivot and has three positions that can be selected according to needs: fully open for the most technical sections, an intermediate level and the option to lock it completely.
The frame is made of high modulus HUS-MOD carbon fiber, the same fiber that the Italians use in all their high-end products. One of the changes compared to its predecessor is the total integration of the cables through the steering. Unlike what was seen in past models, here the cables enter above the steering in a solution that combines aesthetics and functionality -the brand explains that it provides more rigidity- in equal parts.
In addition, it features a new monocoque carbon handlebar Urta Max Bar that the brand assures has "a considerable ability to absorb in the vertical plane all the micro-vibrations derived from the irregularities of the terrain".
The geometry evolves towards a more racing driving
Another of Wilier's efforts has been to optimize the geometry for the assembly of the 120 mm fork and to get the cyclist to pedal in a more sporty position. One of the measures they have modified has been the stem, which they have taken to an inclination of -27º to make the thrust and the most technical climbs more powerful.
With this in mind, the stack has been reduced and the reach has been increased; 598 mm and 443 mm in size M, respectively. In addition, the bottom bracket has been kept lower and, on the other hand, the steering angle is 67.5º and the seat tube angle is 75º.
Thanks to these numbers, the wheelbase is larger than in the previous model, so the feeling of safety and stability has also increased.
Finally, the Urta Max SLR has space for two bottle cages and a telescopic seat post of 100 mm -sizes S and M- or 125 mm -sizes L and XL-.
