New Specialized Pathfinder 29x2.2: more volume to ride faster on gravel

Specialized has introduced the new Pathfinder TLR 29x2.2, a new size for one of its most popular gravel tires. The brand claims that this version is born in response to the increasing technical difficulty in many gravel races and routes, offering greater volume for better control without sacrificing speed.

The development of the new tire involved the participation of riders from the Specialized Off-Road Team, including Sofía Gómez Villafañe and Keegan Swenson, who requested this size to tackle benchmark races like Unbound Gravel and Big Sugar with greater assurance.

According to data provided by Specialized, the Pathfinder TLR 29x2.2 weighs 630 grams, which places it 40 grams below its closest competitor, in addition to offering a rolling resistance that allows it to be 21 watts faster than the AirTrak 2.2 at 30 km/h.

The tire maintains the philosophy of the rest of the Pathfinder range, combining a low-resistance central tread with the GRIPTON T2 compound to maximize speed in a straight line, while the side knobs use the GRIPTON T5 compound to improve cornering grip. Additionally, it features a 60 TPI TLR casing with three layers, designed to increase cut resistance and reduce the risk of punctures. 

In addition to the new 29x2.2 size, the Pathfinder TLR is also available in 700x35, 700x40, 700x45, and 700x50, both in black finish and with brown sidewalls (Tan Sidewall). Specialized recommends its use in gravel competition on compact and semi-loose terrains and proposes it as the ideal option to pair with Roval Terra wheels.

The recommended price for the entire range is 49 euros.
