New Shimano XTR M9200 brakes for XC and Enduro
Shimano has presented its new wireless electronic XTR group for MTB and has completely revamped its braking system. It offers specific models for XC and Enduro/Trail and incorporates a new design of the levers, a reformulation of the mineral oil, and new 2 or 4-piston calipers.
New levers and calipers SHIMANO XTR M9200 for XC
Shimano engineers have worked in collaboration with their test team Skunk to develop this new version of XTR brakes for XC.
Thanks to Shimano ERGO FLOW technology, the brake lever has been redesigned so that its pivot point is closer to the handlebar, making the finger travel when braking as natural as possible. In addition, the shape of the lever now has an asymmetrical design that facilitates contact with the finger in an aggressive riding position.

The 2-piston caliper has also been optimized to improve braking power in any situation without adding weight. Here are the characteristics specified by the manufacturer.
BL-M9200 (XC brake lever)
- Ultralight construction with carbon lever.
- Magnesium master body.
- Compatible with low viscosity mineral oil.
- Compatible with I-SPEC EV.
BR-M9200 (XC brake caliper)
- 2-piston design.
- Heat-resistant resin pistons.
- Compatible with post mount installation.
- Low viscosity hydraulic oil.
- Seals that ensure a constant piston return speed.
SHIMANO XTR M9200 brakes for Enduro/Trail
The XTR brake model for Enduro has also been updated in this new version. The BL-M9220 lever has been developed independently and includes an update to its SERVOWAVE system that offers a smooth but progressive power curve.
The ERGO FLOW technology is also present in this model and improves lever control by allowing the natural movement of the finger to be followed.
Regarding the new 4-piston caliper, Shimano ensures, among other novelties, that it now offers greater stability in piston movement thanks to the new low viscosity mineral oil, which maintains performance over a wider temperature range.
BL-M9220 (Trail/Enduro brake lever)
- ERGO FLOW technology.
- Progressive power curve with new SERVOWAVE track.
- Low viscosity oil for stable performance in all conditions.
- Pivot point closer to the handlebar and upward curved lever for greater ergonomics.
- New reach adjustment dial.
- Compatible with I-SPEC EV.
- Durable alloy lever.
BR-M9220 (Trail/Enduro brake caliper)
- 4-piston design with dual diameter.
- Pads with anti-noise fins.
- Compatible with low viscosity hydraulic fluid.
- Seals that stabilize piston return speed.
- One-piece design to optimize stiffness and weight.
- Specific brake for XC
- Designed for XC riders who prioritize weight without sacrificing the necessary braking power to compete at the highest level.
This new braking system redefines the balance between power, weight, and control in Shimano, and adapts to the specific needs of each type of rider and terrain.
