New Canyon Lux Trail 2027: lighter, longer travel, and a completely renewed geometry

The Canyon Lux Trail completely changes for 2027. The German brand has redesigned its 29-inch dual suspension from scratch to make it much more aggressive, with more travel, a considerably slacker geometry, and greater descending capability, but without giving up one of the main arguments that have always defined this model: a very low weight and high pedaling efficiency.

New Canyon Lux Trail 2026: 200 grams lighter, 140/125 mm of travel, and a geometry that breaks with the previous generation

The transformation is significant. The new Lux Trail increases its travel to 140 mm in the front and 125 mm in the rear, opens the head angle to 64.8° and debuts a carbon frame weighing only 1,850 grams in size M. This means that Canyon has managed to reduce 200 grams compared to the previous generation despite increasing the travel and developing a bike ready to tackle considerably more technical terrain.

With this approach, the Lux Trail distances itself even further from the Lux World Cup intended for XCO competition and also recently updated. Canyon explains that to develop the new model it has combined the lightness and efficiency of its Cross Country bikes with the descending capability of the Neuron CF and some of the concepts of progressive geometry used in the Spectral. The result is a MTB that is difficult to categorize within the traditional limits of downcountry, especially due to its 140 mm of front travel and a geometry more typical of longer travel trail bikes.

The new Canyon Lux Trail debuts a much more aggressive geometry

One of the biggest changes is in the frame dimensions. The head angle goes from 67° of the previous Lux Trail to just 64.8°, a difference of more than two degrees that should significantly modify the bike's behavior on fast descents and technical areas.

Canyon has also increased the wheelbase, stack, and the possibilities of using longer dropper posts. The intention has been to achieve a more centered position on the bike and increase stability at high speeds, but without turning the Lux Trail into a clumsy bike when the terrain becomes slower and more winding.

To achieve this, one of the main innovations is the use of specific chainstays according to size. The frames XS, S, and M have 435 mm chainstays, while in the L and XL sizes they increase to 440 mm. This solution allows adapting the length of the rear triangle to the growth of the front part of the frame and maintaining a more balanced weight distribution for cyclists of different heights.

The new Lux Trail will be available in five sizes, from XS to XL, all with 29-inch wheels. In size M it offers 450 mm of reach, 605 mm of stack, and a wheelbase of 1,200 mm, while size XL reaches up to 490 mm of reach and 1,258 mm between axles.

A frame of 1,850 grams despite increasing travel and descending capability

Achieving a more capable bike while simultaneously reducing its weight has been one of the main challenges of development. Canyon claims 1,850 grams for the frame in size M, a figure 200 grams lower than the previous model.

To achieve this, engineers have resorted to topological optimization processes to study the load distribution on the structure. The goal has been to place more material in areas subjected to greater stresses and eliminate it in those areas where it was not structurally necessary.

The weight reduction does not mean that Canyon has lowered the strength requirements. The new frame continues to meet Category 3 standards, suitable for considerably more demanding use than that of a bike intended exclusively for Cross Country.

The raw carbon frame weighs 1,445 grams, distributed between the 1,025 grams of the front triangle and the 420 grams of the rear. The rest to reach 1,850 grams corresponds to the paint, the rocker, the shock extension, the brake mount, the protectors, the bearings, and the rest of the hardware.

The rear suspension increases to 125 mm and maintains the Flex Stay system

The new Lux Trail retains the Flex Stay rear suspension, but Canyon has thoroughly revised its operation. The rear triangle continues to be made in a single piece of carbon and does without an additional joint between chainstays and seatstays, using the controlled flex of the material itself to allow the movement of the suspension.

This construction allows reducing the number of bearings, joints, and necessary parts, contributing to both weight savings and simplifying maintenance. However, the travel increases from the previous 115 mm to the current 125 mm.

Canyon has also modified the suspension kinematics. The new progression curve offers more support around the SAG point to improve stability during pedaling and prevent the bike from sinking excessively when facing descents and hard hits. The intention has been to maintain an efficient platform on climbs without compromising the sensitivity and absorption capacity needed on technical terrain.

At the end of the travel, the progression decreases slightly to facilitate the use of the available 125 mm when larger impacts occur. Canyon thus seeks a lively and reactive behavior, but with enough margin to tackle areas that previously fell outside the natural terrain of the Lux Trail.

A new brake mount to improve the operation of the Flex Stay

Among the less visible technical solutions stands out the new independent mount for the rear brake caliper. Canyon has developed a specific Post Mount adapter that aims to support the forces generated during braking without unnecessarily interfering with the flex of the seatstays.

By isolating the caliper mount to a greater extent, the carbon can work with fewer restrictions during the movement of the suspension. The solution has also allowed for further reduction in the number of parts and the weight of the assembly.

All versions of the new Lux Trail come with 180 mm discs front and rear, a decision consistent with the considerable increase in the bike's descending capabilities.

140 mm in the front and FOX 36 SL fork in the higher versions

The increase in front travel is probably the element that best defines the new orientation of the Lux Trail. Canyon goes from the previous 120 mm to 140 mm, a figure that considerably expands the bike's possibilities on technical descents.

The Lux Trail CF 7, CF 8, and CF 9 come with different versions of the 140 mm FOX 36 SL, a fork that combines 36 mm stanchions with a particularly lightweight construction. The CF 6 uses a FOX 34 Rhythm, also with 140 mm of travel.

In the rear, all versions use 210 x 55 mm shocks to provide the 125 mm of travel. The greater insertion available in the seat tube also allows for the installation of dropper posts with travel between 150 and 170 mm, depending on the size and setup.

Fewer parts and easier maintenance

Canyon has also taken advantage of the redesign to simplify the construction of the bike. The Lux Trail debuts a linkage made using 3D forging and optimized through finite element analysis that weighs only 45 grams.

The shock extension uses bearings secured with circlips and the frame reduces the number of small parts, while concentrating maintenance points to facilitate mechanical interventions.

The brand also maintains a threaded BSA bottom bracket, while the integrated storage compartment in the diagonal tube has increased in size and features a new opening mechanism. The space is completely waterproof and all bikes include a cover for transporting tools and a multi-tool.
