New Aurum Magma V2. More integrated and aerodynamic
Aurum, the bike brand of Alberto Contador and Iván Basso, which has had such a presence in the recently concluded Giro d'Italia 2024 in the legs of the Polti-Kometa cyclists, presents version 2 of its iconic Aurum Magma in which, following the trend of current competition models, aerodynamic qualities are reinforced to make it even faster without losing its climbing genetics.
The Aurum Magma V2, the weapon of Polti-Kometa, now available
It could go unnoticed to the untrained eye, as the new Aurum Magma V2 has not intended to radically break with what was already a fantastic bike. However, the increasing level of the Polti-Kometa team and the end of the life cycle of the original Magma have led Aurum to develop a new version that now sees the light and addresses the team's requirements, especially in terms of the increasingly relevant aerodynamics.
The Aurum Magma V2 precisely focuses on this parameter with more elaborate tube profiles that slightly increase in depth. Not much, but enough to provide an improvement, according to Aurum data, of 7 W at 45 km/h. A redesign of profiles that is also evident in the new aerodynamic seatpost and seat tube.

The head tube also narrows to offer less frontal surface, changing the lower bearing from the usual 1 1/2'' size to 1 3/8'', which allows for a little less width without compromising the stiffness of this element. Additionally, the fork is redesigned to improve aerodynamics and increase the maximum wheel clearance to accommodate tires up to 700x35c.
The aerodynamics of this new Aurum Magma V2 are completed by the new integrated handlebar stem set, replacing the traditional configuration used by the original Magma, and allowing for up to 10 W of savings.
Aurum has also taken advantage of this new bike to include other small technical details such as abandoning the press-fit bottom bracket in favor of the increasingly common T47 with threaded cups that ensures easy maintenance and absence of noise and play. Also new is the incorporation of the UDH derailleur hanger system.
Obviously, there are more differences than meet the eye, such as the optimization of the carbon layup using up to six different types of fibers provided by the Japanese manufacturer Toray. Laminates that, of course, are different for each size to ensure that they all offer the same performance on the road.
A bike that maintains its climbing genetics with a very lightweight frame that results in a 780 g frame in size 54 unpainted, 375 g fork, or 170 g handlebar/stem set. In fact, Aurum is able to achieve a complete bike weight of 6.5 kg, although, according to the brand, weight has not been a primary goal but rather seeking the best balance between different qualities, where, as we said, the most important thing has been to enhance aerodynamics, the weak point of the original Aurum Magma.
As is customary with Aurum, customers can choose the assembly of their Magma V2 from the available options, including a basic configuration with SRAM Force AXS or Shimano Ultegra Di2 and ENVE Foundation 45 wheels priced at €8,099. At the other end of the spectrum, there are assemblies with SRAM Red AXS or Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 and Lightweight Obermayer wheels that raise the price to €14,999. Initially, the bike is only available in Arctic White and Glossy Carbon Black colors, although, as with the previous Magma, the brand is sure to be preparing new options that will be introduced progressively.
These bikes can now be purchased directly on the Aurum website and will begin shipping in July.
