The XCM World Cup experienced one of its most emblematic events this Saturday with the Capoliveri Legend Cup on the Island of Elba. The second round of the HERO UCI Marathon World Cup left a very fast, tactical race marked by the return of the legendary "Wall of Legend," where both the men's and women's races were ultimately decided. Jakob Dorigoni and Anna Weinbeer were the big winners of the day, while the Spanish rider Natalia Fischer achieved an important second place, and David Valero finished the race in 14th position.

The 2026 edition recovered part of the classic essence of the Italian race with a course of 73 km and 2,600 meters of positive elevation gain. Additionally, the extremely tough Wall of Legend returned to the circuit, an explosive and technical climb that proved decisive.

Dorigoni breaks Belgian dominance and wins after a dramatic finish

The men's race maintained a very large front group for much of the course despite the high pace set from the start. Neither Fabian Rabensteiner nor Diego Rosa managed to break the race apart in the first kilometers, and everything was ultimately resolved in the second half of the race.

At the passage through Ripalte, after surpassing kilometer 45, a group of seven riders was still fighting for victory. Among them were Jakob Dorigoni, Gioele De Cosmo, Stefano Goria, Hector Leonardo Paez, Fabian Rabensteiner, Lorenzo Samparisi, and Diego Rosa. Meanwhile, the overall leader Wout Alleman was riding further back, about 50 seconds behind.

The breaking point came with the return of the Wall of Legend. Stefano Goria launched a strong attack that only the Torpado Kenda FSA riders, Jakob Dorigoni and Gioele De Cosmo, could follow. From there, the race exploded definitively.

In the final climb towards Capoliveri, De Cosmo eventually gave way, and the victory was decided between Dorigoni and Goria. The Italian from Torpado Kenda FSA launched the decisive attack just 200 meters from the finish line and managed to win by just three seconds after more than three hours of effort. Dorigoni stopped the clock at 3h11:52, achieving one of the most important victories of his season. Stefano Goria finished second, and Gioele De Cosmo completed the podium at 1:11.

David Valero, who at the finish explained that he had arrived after weeks in which he had not been able to train as he would have liked, finished 14th alongside his teammate Samuele Porro, both just over five minutes behind the winner.

Natalia Fischer climbs to second place

The women's race had a completely different script. Anna Weinbeer once again demonstrated that she is in spectacular form and dominated the race practically from the start.

The Swiss rider, the reigning world runner-up in XCM and leader of the World Cup after winning in Calpe, opened a gap very early in the first climbs of Monte Calamita, and no one could keep up with her pace.

Behind her, there was a battle for the podium. Natalia Fischer grew stronger as the kilometers passed until she overtook the Bosnian Lejla Njemcevic on the Wall of Legend. This move allowed the rider from Extremadura Ecopilas UCI MTB Team to consolidate her second place and achieve one of her best international results of the season.

Weinbeer crossed the finish line alone with a time of 3h46:36, achieving her second consecutive victory in the XCM World Cup. Fischer finished second at 4:29, and Njemcevic closed the podium at 6:48.
