Mountain biker shot after mistaking him for a rabbit
On Sunday 28 November, a cyclist was shot while riding along a path in the Orgergia Forest Park, in the town of Alicante. The accident occurred in an area near a water treatment plant, on a path parallel to the main road, and some cyclists who stopped to help the injured man claim that it was the hunters themselves who called 112.
The emergency services attended to the cyclist with dozens of pellet impacts in his back and legs while the Alicante police identified the hunter who had the proper documentation to practice hunting and who confirmed that he had shot him with a cartridge after mistaking him for the movement of a rabbit. Although the witnesses who arrived after the accident claim that the cyclist was wearing a helmet and brightly coloured equipment.
Although this is an isolated case, unfortunately it is not the first time that this type of accident has occurred between hunters and other sportsmen and sportswomen who share the same environment.
