McNulty already has his World Champion’s Colnago: a one-off Y1Rs

Less than a week after winning the Montreal World Championship, Brandon McNulty already has a bike worthy of his new jersey. Colnago has unveiled the Y1Rs World Champion, a unique version created for the American that he will debut this Saturday, October 3, at the Giro dell’Emilia.

The new Colnago Y1Rs of Brandon McNulty celebrates his world title

The Giro dell’Emilia will mark the beginning of a new stage for Brandon McNulty. The American will compete there in his first race as world champion and, in addition to debuting the rainbow jersey, he will do so on a completely customized Colnago Y1Rs for the occasion.

The Italian brand has started with a base of glossy black carbon with a slight glitter effect. On it, the colors of the rainbow appear through large blocks of blue, red, yellow, and green that run across different areas of the frame and the rear stays.

This is not just about transferring the UCI colors to the bike. Colnago has introduced several direct references to McNulty and to his victory in the Montreal World Championship.

The small glittering particles integrated into the black finish are meant to evoke the stars of the American flag, while the Colnago logo on the diagonal tube receives a holographic and iridescent finish that changes appearance with the incidence of light.

Montreal is also engraved on the bike

The most particular details appear around the head tube. The classic Colnago logo located on the head tube incorporates the rainbow bands, combining the historical identity of the Italian brand with the colors reserved for the world champion.

Even more specific is the decoration hidden in the top cap. When turning the handlebars, the date of the world victory appears accompanied by a clover and a maple leaf, the latter as a direct reference to Canada and Montreal.

It is a way to fix in the frame the moment that changed McNulty's sporting career. The American was crowned world champion last Sunday after attacking 33 kilometers from the finish and completing the decisive stretch solo. He arrived with only a 13-second margin over Michael Matthews and Mathieu van der Poel after a final lap in which he admitted to having ridden completely at the limit.

An exclusive Colnago that will not be for sale

Colnago has confirmed that this world champion decoration has been created exclusively for Brandon McNulty and will not be marketed.

Its debut will come just six days after the title, at the Giro dell’Emilia. The Italian classic will celebrate its 109th edition this Saturday over 198 kilometers between Ferrara and Bologna, with the traditional finish on the climb to San Luca.

This will be the first time McNulty lines up dressed in the rainbow and also the first competitive appearance of a Y1Rs that over the next few months will make it unnecessary to look at the jersey to know who is on top.
