Just a few days before the start of the ABSA Cape Epic 2025, we are getting to know some of the favorite pairs for victory and there is no doubt that this is one of them. Matt Beers and Keegan Swenson will compete together under the team name Outride-Toyota-Songo.

The Cape Epic is known for its demanding route through the wild terrain of South Africa, and in those conditions it is not enough for each cyclist to perform individually, good harmony with the partner is essential. In that sense, it seems that Matt Beers, a three-time winner of the race, has found one of the best adventure companions possible in Keegan Swenson, one of the best current specialists in XCM and gravel.

"It is always a privilege to defend a title. Joining Keegan is something I never thought would happen. We are good friends and we always talked about competing together in this race. That it is now a reality is incredible," explained Matt Beers after announcing his team for the ABSA Cape Epic 2025.

For his part, Swenson said:

"I couldn't ask for a better partner than Matt. Racing together in a race he has won three times is an opportunity that excites me a lot. Matt is a true powerhouse, and his strength combined with his experience will be key. It is my best chance so far to win this iconic race and I hope to help Matt achieve his fourth victory,"

Both cyclists have undergone thorough preparation. Beers, thanks to his previous experience, has maintained a training plan similar to previous years, making small adjustments. In addition, being a local gives him the advantage of being adapted to the South African climate and terrain.

On the other hand, Swenson has taken a more intense approach. With two previous participations in the Cape Epic, he knows that each stage starts as a 90-minute XCO race, followed by several more hours of continuous effort. To prepare, he spent two weeks doing more rigorous high-intensity training than in his career.

As for their bikes and equipment, this will be a multi-brand pair, and they will compete with different bikes that will be auctioned off for a charitable cause after the race.

Matt Beers will compete with a Specialized Epic 8, equipped with Roval wheels, RockShox Flight Attendant suspension, and SRAM Transmission drivetrain. The tire selection will be made daily within the Specialized tire line.

Keegan Swenson will use a Santa Cruz Blur, with Reserve 28|XC wheels, RockShox Flight Attendant suspension, and SRAM Transmission drivetrain. The tires will be chosen from the Maxxis line, also depending on daily conditions.

The combination of strength, experience, and strategic preparation makes Matt Beers and Keegan Swenson one of the favorite teams to conquer the ABSA Cape Epic 2025.
