Jonathan Milan unbeatable in the Giro sprints
Perfect lesson from Lidl-Trek on how to set up a train and prepare for the arrival to their man quickly, a Jonathan Milan who manages to secure, with total sufficiency, a new mass sprint at the Giro d'Italia 2024 after a relatively calm day awaiting the decisive time trial that will take place tomorrow.
Jonathan Milan wins in the calm before the storm of the Giro d'Italia 2024
Completely flat stage. 179 kilometers between Riccione and Cento that represented the last opportunity for sprinters in this second week especially when the two days of the weekend will be marked by the decisive time trial at Lago di Garda and the first high mountain stage that will take the peloton to Livigno.
A day in which the initial breakaway was successful with most of the peloton looking to recover their legs after the demanding day yesterday. The day's breakaway was made up of just three cyclists: Andrea Pietrobon, Manuele Tarozzi, and Alessandro Tonelli.

When everything seemed to point to a day without incidents, with 60 kilometers to go, a crosswind appeared, which was seized by INEOS Grenadiers to try to surprise, causing the peloton to split in two. However, none of the top favorites fell into the echelons trap, only Jonathan Milan was left behind.
An intense pace that only served to catch the breakaway early since, with a change in the direction of the road, Milan's group ended up rejoining and overcoming the challenge that Alpecin-Deceuninck was already savoring.
A couple of modest riders tried to break away again in the final stretch, with Martin Marcellusi from Bardiani and Dries de Pooter from Intermarché, but as the race was nearing the finish line, the teams of the fast men did not want to speculate anymore and a strong pace was set until the finish.
The last kilometers were a tough battle between Soudal-QuickStep and Lidl-Trek, with the latter prevailing as they entered the final kilometer with their entire group perfectly grouped, executing a lead-out that had not been seen in a long time, with each rider knowing exactly when to give their all before pulling off.
Only Fernando Gaviria dared to try to break the expected outcome by launching, as is usual for the Colombian sprinter, the sprint from very far out. Jonathan Milan remained calm, easily latching onto his wheel, passing him to continue accelerating and winning by more than a bike length, making it 3 stage wins for the Italian in this Giro d'Italia 2024.
