Jofre Cullell fractures his hand and will miss the final rounds of the World Cup

Jofre Cullell will not be able to compete in the last two events of the XCO World Cup 2026. The BH Coloma Team rider suffered a displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand while training last week and has already undergone surgery.

An injury halts Jofre Cullell's intense season

The BH Coloma Team has announced an injury that forces Jofre Cullell to end his international calendar early. According to the team, the Catalan suffered a blow while training last week that caused a displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand.

Cullell was successfully operated on last Thursday and is now at home focusing on his recovery. The immediate consequence is that he will not travel to the United States and will miss the last two events of the UCI MTB World Series 2026, Soldier Hollow and Lake Placid.

The injury comes after a particularly intense season for Cullell in which he had participated in 32 races during 2026, including XCO, XCC, and Team Relay events since his debut in La Nucía on February 7 until the Swiss Bike Cup in Huttwil on September 6.

His calendar has included practically all the major international XCO and XCC events, as well as national competitions and championships. Among them are all the World Cup events held, in addition to the European Championship in Monteceneri and the recent World Championship in Val di Sole.

Among his best performances, one of the most important came in June, when Cullell was crowned champion of Spain in Short Track in La Molina. The Catalan achieved the title after falling in the first lap, coming back to the front, and attacking in the sixth lap to go solo for the gold. 

From the problem at the XCO Spain Championship to his best World Championship

He did not have the same luck at the XCO Spain Championship in Arroyomolinos, where he was one of the main favorites against David Valero. While still riding with the front group, a piece of tape from the circuit got caught in the sprocket of his bike and forced him to stop. He lost contact with the leaders and had to face the rest of the race making up positions, although without any real chance of fighting for the title. He ultimately finished sixth. 

Cullell also had to overcome physical problems during the summer. At the World Championship in Val di Sole, he achieved one of the most notable results of his season. After completing a race that went from less to more, he finished 17th in the Elite XCO, 2:58 behind champion Tom Pidcock, thus achieving the best position of his career in a World Championship XCO. 

Now a new injury prevents him from completing the World Cup season. Soldier Hollow and Lake Placid were supposed to close the 2026 calendar in the United States, but Cullell will have to replace those last two races with a recovery period following the surgery on his left hand.
