The rain was the first protagonist of the Les Gets World Cup, which started this Friday with the Short Track races. There, Swedish Jenny Rissveds (Canyon CLLCTV) and British Charlie Aldridge took two important victories just a few days before the World Championship.

With the green light on, Puck Pieterse (Alpecin-Deceuninck), fresh from the Tour de France, tried to take the lead, but only held on for a few meters. With the race set at 9 laps, the first serious move came from the world champion in the discipline, Evie Richards (Trek Factory Racing), and the newly crowned European champion, Jenny Rissveds (Canyon CLLCTV), who stretched the group and selected the favorites.

A front sextet was soon formed with Samara Maxwell (Decathlon Ford Racing Team), Alessandra Keller (Thömus Maxon), Jenny Rissveds, Evie Richards, Jolanda Neff (Cannondale Factory Racing), and Sina Frei (Specialized Factory Racing). The intensity was constant, with attacks happening lap after lap until Jolanda Neff was the first to be dropped.

With two laps to go, Jenny Rissveds launched a devastating attack that only Alessandra Keller could try to follow. The Swede held on until the last meter and raised her arms in Les Gets to celebrate her second victory in the 2025 World Cup. Keller finished second seven seconds behind, while overall leader Samara Maxwell completed the podium.

Puck Pieterse finally finished in 11th place after suffering and fighting back throughout the race.

Charlie Aldridge shows power and strategy to win the Les Gets men's Short Track

The return of the World Cup after six weeks off left many questions about the form of the favorites, and the Les Gets men's Short Track did not disappoint. Amid great anticipation, German Luca Schwarzbauer (Canyon CLLCTV) was the first to take the lead, closely followed by Chris Blevins (Specialized), who could seal the XCC overall if he finished first or second.

The first laps kept a large group at the front, with up to 20 riders riding together. Among them, the Mexican Gerardo Ulloa (Massi) and the Dane Simon Andreassen (Orbea FOX) stood out for their comeback to the front. On the Spanish side, David Campos was a last-minute withdrawal, while Jofre Cullell (BH Coloma) showed solidity in the crowded front group.

The race, scheduled for 10 laps, began to break up halfway. Andreassen tried to increase the pace with several attacks, but without success in his attempt to break away solo. Riders like Luca Martin (Cannondale), Filippo Colombo (Scott-SRAM), Dario Lillo (Giant), and Blevins himself, who this time couldn't find the necessary flow, stayed with him.

The first big move came with two laps to go, when British Charlie Aldridge launched a powerful attack that seemed definitive. The effort was neutralized, but in the last lap, he tried his luck again. This time, the British champion used pure power and no one could match him, not even his teammate Luca Martin, who had the support of the local crowd, or the Italian Luca Braidot (Wilier Vittoria). Aldridge held on until the end and took a victory that speaks volumes just a week before the World Championships.

With this victory, Aldridge asserts his authority in the World Cup and shows that he can compete head-to-head with the big names in XCC. The battle for the overall, however, remains open with Blevins far from the top spots in Les Gets.
