Hutchinson ensures that their new Blackbird lasts more than 4,000km and is the fastest one created so far
The Fusion, a classic tire in road cycling, now has a successor with the launch of the Hutchinson Blackbird Racing Lab tires with a new compound that the brand claims has found the holy grail of tires where long durability goes hand in hand with the best performance.
Durability and performance come together in the new Hutchinson Blackbird tires
After four years of development, Hutchinson has decided to retire one of the most common road cycling tires, the Fusion line, which has been at the top of the range in road sports tires for years, and replace it with the new Hutchinson Blackbird Racing Lab tires.
For these tires, Hutchinson has developed a new compound called Mach Tread 3.0 and a new construction of the Swift Easy 127 TPI tire casing, which the brand claims achieves a 10% reduction in rolling resistance compared to the Fusion 5. Additionally, with the tread having 15% more contact surface, it improves cornering grip of tires designed from the beginning to adapt to the new wide rim wheels.

What is striking, for a competition tire, is that Hutchinson attributes a lifespan of no less than 40,000 km to these Blackbird tires, a completely atypical figure for this type of tire.
The secret to reducing rolling resistance lies in the flexibility of its Swift Easy casing, where the anti-puncture polyamide strip that is usually placed between the casing and the tread is now integrated directly into the fabric of the casing, reducing it to the minimum expression. This casing has a second layer that goes from flank to flank to achieve the necessary airtightness in tubeless models.
This also allows for weight reduction, achieving a weight of 290 g in its 700x28c version. These tires will be available in sizes of 26, 28, and 30 mm, with the option of black or cream sidewalls, priced at €69.99 for tubeless versions and €49.99 for conventional versions.
