Shimano continues to expand its gravel catalog with the launch of the new RX710, a pair of shoes that transfers much of the technology from the exclusive S-Phyre RX910 to a much more affordable model. The Japanese brand presents them as an option designed for both those seeking performance in competition and for bikepacking enthusiasts or long adventure routes, all with minimal weight penalty.

Shimano democratizes the technology of its competition gravel shoes with the new RX710

The new RX710 take the S-Phyre RX910 as a starting point, the top-of-the-line model presented last year. The main difference is in the stiffness of the sole: Shimano assigns them a rating of 9 out of 12, compared to the maximum 12 out of 12 of the RX910.

Even so, they maintain a carbon-reinforced midsole and a low stack profile design, a combination that aims to maximize power transfer without sacrificing comfort during long days on the bike.

One of the most striking elements inherited directly from the RX910 is the Pontoon Cleat system. In this design, the cleat is mounted on a floating plate surrounded by rubber blocks on both sides.

According to Shimano, this solution offers several advantages:

• Greater foot stability on the pedal
• Better comfort when walking off the bike
• A more solid connection between the cleat and the pedal
• The possibility of replacing only the rubber blocks when they wear out, without needing to replace the entire sole

This system is especially designed for gravel, where it is common to alternate pedaling with walking sections or technical terrain.

Double Boa closure and only 11 grams heavier

The RX710 uses a double Boa L6Z closure, which allows for independent adjustment at the top and bottom of the foot. Unlike the Boa Li2 dials of the RX910, these do not allow loosening the cable by turning in the opposite direction: to release tension, it is necessary to lift the dial completely and readjust it afterward.

Regarding weight, Shimano claims 315 grams per shoe (size 43), just 11 grams more than the RX910, which weigh in at 304 grams.

Three colors and a wide range of sizes

The new shoes will be available in three finishes: Black, navy blue, and Sand White.

Shimano also maintains its usual offering of standard, wide, and narrow lasts, with a wide range of sizes from 36 to 50, depending on the version.

Price of the Shimano RX710

The new Shimano RX710 hits the market with an official price of 254.95 euros, clearly positioned below the S-Phyre RX910, which has a recommended price of 419.95 euros.

The difference of 165 euros makes the RX710 a very interesting alternative for those looking for much of the technology of the competition model without assuming the cost of the top-of-the-line, especially considering that the weight difference between the two is only 11 grams.
