Geraint Thomas' sunglasses are still unique
The image of Geraint Thomas wearing the inseparable Oakley Jawbone, a pair of sunglasses that the Welshman has been using for more than a decade, was broken when at the beginning of the season INEOS Grenadiers signed a new sponsorship contract with SunGod, a brand that has prepared for the current Giro leader a very special pair of sunglasses.
This is the prototype of the GT glasses that SunGod has created for Geraint Thomas
SunGod, the brand that replaced Okley as the sponsor of the INEOS Grenadiers cyclists' glasses at the beginning of this season, has created for Geraint Thomas a prototype with a look vaguely reminiscent of the Jawbone glasses that the Welshman had been using for more than 10 years despite being a discontinued model, although with all the features of modern cycling glasses.
Until the start of the Giro d'Italia, Geraint Thomas had been using the models available in the SunGod catalog, the Airas, Vulcano Velas models. However, in this Giro d'Italia he has worn a prototype called GT which, unlike the models mentioned above, is built with a full mount according to the Welshman's preferences.

The name GT chosen for this new model of glasses, which will be on sale soon, contrary to what one might think, does not allude to Geraint Thomas but is the acronym for Grand Tourer. For its development, SunGod has used the increasingly common technique of 3D printing, in fact, although the production models are not made in this way, the prototype glasses that Thomas is using in the Giro d'Italia until the first rest day, where he received a model very close to the final one, have been made by printing.
One of the distinctive features of these glasses compared to other models on the market is their peculiar lenses which, instead of using the usual polycarbonate, use a different material, 8KO nylon, which, according to SunGod, produces less distortion when light passes through it.
The full mount design allows the lenses of these new GT to be interchangeable, allowing you to choose between several options depending on the light conditions of each day. A model that the brand expects to launch soon, in fact it is already possible to register for pre-order on its website, only with a white frame option. SunGod plans to add more color options for the summer of 2024.
