From Superbike to eBike: Xavi Vierge chooses the Specialized Turbo Vado SL 2 between sessions

The paddock of a Superbike World Championship is a place where practically everything happens quickly, even when the bikes are stationary. Xavi Vierge, rider for PATA Maxus Yamaha, has found a particular solution in the Specialized Turbo Vado SL 2 to get around during competition weekends.

Between track sessions, meetings with the team, and other commitments, Vierge uses the Specialized electric bike to navigate the paddock without having to expend too much energy on the moves.

But the Spanish rider explains that the bike serves a second function for him. In addition to allowing him to get from one point to another quickly, pedaling provides a small disconnection within the usual intensity of a Superbike weekend.

“In Superbike, everything is intense. Speed, pressure, and absolute concentration. Between sessions, I still need to move, but also to disconnect. Riding a bike allows me to move quickly around the paddock, clear my mind, and find calm. That balance helps me be ready when it’s time to compete again,” explains Xavi Vierge.

The chosen bike is precisely one of the models with which Specialized has tried to bring the concept of a lightweight eBike closer to everyday mobility. The Turbo Vado SL 2 Carbon that we got to know in 2024 combines a carbon frame with the Specialized SL 1.2 system, a 320 W and 50 Nm motor powered by a 520 Wh integrated battery.

Depending on the setup, the family arrived with versions starting from 14.98 kg, in addition to solutions specifically designed for daily use, such as integrated lighting, compatibility with racks and fenders, Apple Find My, or the Turbo System Lock anti-theft system.

In Vierge's case, the scenario is quite different from the urban traffic for which the Turbo Vado SL 2 is initially designed, but it fits with the same idea of making short trips quickly and with contained effort.
