In recent years, the Italian brand Favero has been one of the main contributors to the democratization of the use of the power meter as a training tool thanks to its affordable models that are easy to install and use on different bikes by measuring on the pedals. Now, they transfer that same technology to the Assioma Pro MX mountain bike and gravel model.

Favero's Assioma Pro MX pedals take power measurement off-road

Favero Assioma pedals are well established in the road cycling world, where they have become one of the simplest options to equip our bikes with power measurement. And we say bikes in plural because one of the main reasons to choose Favero Assioma as a power measurement system is precisely the ease of installation. Simply attach them to the cranks like conventional pedals, without any adjustments or calibration as required by other models previously available on the market, both from Favero and other brands.

Now, Favero has managed to transfer these advantages to a pedal model for SPD system so that those who venture off-road, whether on their mountain bike or gravel bike, can also manage their efforts as accurately as possible.

A +-1% precision, achieved, as in the road model, by measuring torque and movement in the three axes, for which it has small gyroscopes integrated into its electronics, in order to take into account all movements in the calculation of the final power exerted. Needless to say, like all modern meters, it has automatic temperature compensation to avoid the influence of heat or cold on the tension gauge readings.

However, the great merit has been to transfer all this to the limited space of a mountain bike pedal like these new Assioma Pro MX. Favero, in a design feat, has managed to integrate everything, including strain gauges, sensors, battery, or electronics in the space occupied by the pedal axle, thus ensuring that the entire measurement system remains as isolated as possible from external elements and protected against impacts.

This also simplifies maintenance of the pedal as there is no electronics in the body of the pedal, so to clean, grease, or replace a bearing, you only need to unscrew the axle and remove it from the pedal, allowing you to work on the body without touching the electronic part.

As we mentioned before, the system is powered by small batteries housed in the pedal axle that are recharged through a magnetic connector located on the axle itself in the area closest to the crank, where you can connect the specific charger without having to remove the pedals from the bike. One charge provides up to 60 hours of autonomy.

Like their road counterparts, these Assioma Pro MX pedals provide a wealth of data on pedaling biomechanics such as leg balance, left/right deviation of the point where force is applied on the pedal, torque application graph throughout the pedal stroke, time spent standing/sitting, torque effectiveness, etc. that can be collected and analyzed using their mobile application.

These pedals are available in Assioma Pro MX 1 version with single-leg measurement for 445.28 €, the Pro MX 2 with dual-leg measurement for 742.86 €, and an upgrade kit to convert the MX1 to MX2 priced at 426.38 €.
