Evie Richards wins the second Short Track of the season in Araxá
Araxá was once again the stage for the second round of the Short Track World Cup. It was in the second round held this Friday on the same Brazilian track where the season was inaugurated less than a week before. Under a sweltering heat that forced the cyclists to wear ice vests before the start, the show did not disappoint and once again had Evie Richards as the star protagonist.
Evie Richards also wins the second Short Track of the season
The British rider from Trek Factory Racing, holder of the rainbow jersey of World Champion, took her second consecutive victory in the discipline with an impeccable tactical performance and a devastating final sprint. Although she did not wear the number one bib, that honor belonged to New Zealander Samara Maxwell (Decathlon Ford), the fresh winner of the XCO in the previous round, Richards made it clear from halfway through the race that she was not willing to give up her throne.
From the start, the peloton remained compact, but the passage through the first technical trail began to stretch the group. It was Canadian Jennifer Jackson (Orbea FOX) who took the initiative, setting the pace at the front alongside names like Savilia Blunk (Decathlon Ford), Sina Frei (Specialized), and Loana Lecomte (BMC).

The race, set at 7 laps after the first lap, became a back and forth of positions among the favorites, taking advantage of a wide circuit that favored overtaking and constant changes of pace. In lap 3, Richards appeared at the front for the first time, while Jenny Rissveds (Canyon) also joined the leading group, increasing the tension in the decisive part.
With attacks multiplying in the last three laps, Jennifer Jackson once again left her mark trying to break the group, but the outcome was reserved, as almost always in the Short Track, for the final lap. There, Evie Richards showed legs and experience: she knew how to read every move and launched a devastating sprint in the last meters that gave her the victory ahead of Nicole Koller (Ghost) and Jenny Rissveds, who completed the podium.
