In the run-up to the Tour de France 2024, all eyes are on the new equipment that teams are debuting for this race or the new bikes that are being presented these days. The attention has been drawn to the shoes used by Remco Evenepoel in what could be a prototype of some new S-Works Ares.

Remco Evenepoel tests new Specialized shoes at the Tour de France 2024

The Tour de France has become the perfect showcase that brands take advantage of to present their new products as we have seen with the avalanche of new bike launches that have taken place these days.

However, it is also one of the most demanding races in the world and, therefore, it becomes an ideal testing ground to develop new products, at least in their final development phase to avoid risking in such an important competition.

This seems to be the case with the S-Works shoes that Remco Evenepoel seems to be using. Shoes that could be seen in a team video and caught the attention of shoe customization expert Jota Kicks.

It would be, apparently, a new version of the S-Works Ares as indicated by the Boa inserted in the upper closure flap. But, instead of having a second Boa at the bottom, this would have been replaced by a velcro in the style of the Torch, the other reference model in the Specialized range. It is also noticeable in the images that the Boa would have the metallic dial instead of the plastic ones used in the current Ares in the catalog. It is surely a prototype of a new shoe that we will know more about sooner rather than later.
