Eiros makes a big entrance into the e-MTB world with an exclusive 18.5kg full-power, mullet e-MTB with 170mm of travel

The innovative brand Eiros has just made the leap from components to complete bicycles with the Empor-E, an exclusive e-MTB for enduro that takes the philosophy of the Barcelona-based company to the extreme. Carbon everywhere, Mahle M40 motor with 850 W, high-capacity battery, and uncompromising assembly to achieve a declared weight of only 18.5 kg. Its production will be limited to 100 units worldwide.

Eiros Empor-E: carbon and in-house manufacturing to drop to 18.5 kg

Just a few days ago, we published our review of the Eiros Atena, an ultralight integrated carbon cockpit designed and manufactured in Barcelona that already served to understand that Eiros specializes in creating extremely lightweight carbon structures without compromising anything.

Now the brand takes that same philosophy much further with the new Empor-E, an e-MTB where Eiros has designed the entire frame, including the swingarm, linkages, transmission protector, cockpit, and saddle, all made of carbon.

The idea behind the project is that these parts do not function as independent components but rather as part of a single design. Eiros has worked jointly on structure, geometry, kinematics, and pivot points to reduce material and weight wherever possible.

The main carbon frame has a declared weight of 1.2 kg, while titanium is used for axles and fasteners. Oversized bearings have been installed at the pivot points to increase structural stability and reduce flex and play.

The result announced by Eiros is 18.5 kg for the complete bicycle. 

A Mahle M40 with 105 Nm and up to 850 W

The Empor-E does not use one of the usual lightweight motors with reduced assistance, but rather the Mahle M40, a full-power system that claims 105 Nm of maximum torque and up to 850 W of maximum power.

The M40 employs speed, cadence, and torque sensors to continuously adapt the assistance to what the cyclist is doing. Mahle thus seeks an immediate but progressive delivery, even in the face of sudden changes in cadence or force on the pedals.

Eiros combines the motor with a Mahle iM8 battery of 850 Wh. According to the figures communicated for the Empor-E, the set can reach up to 150 kilometers of autonomy or 2,500 meters of positive elevation, although, as always happens with this type of estimates, the actual autonomy will depend on the level of assistance, terrain, cyclist weight, and usage conditions.

With these data, the Empor-E presents an unusual combination: performance typical of a full-power e-MTB, a high-capacity battery, and a weight that directly falls into figures more typical of some lightweight e-MTBs.

170 mm in front and mullet setup

The Empor-E is designed as an e-MTB for clearly aggressive use. Eiros has chosen a mullet configuration, with a 29" wheel in front and 27.5" in the back, and a setup focused on high-end components.

At the front, we find a Öhlins RXF 38 m.3 TTX18 with 170 mm, a fork with 38 mm stanchions and TTX18 cartridge. In the back, it mounts a Öhlins TTX2 Air m.2, 210 x 55 mm.

The wheels are DT Swiss HXC 1200, specific for e-MTB and with carbon rims. Eiros combines them with Continental Kryptotal tires, with Enduro Soft compound in front and Downhill Soft in the back, another choice that makes it clear that the low weight has not been achieved by resorting to lightweight XC tires.

The transmission is handled by SRAM XX Eagle Transmission, with electronic AXS shifting, while for the dropper post, RockShox is used.

Brembo GR-PRO to stop it

One of the most particular components of the setup is in the brakes. Eiros has chosen the new Brembo GR-PRO, developed for gravity disciplines and with adjustable lever distance, reach, and free stroke.

On paper, it is a choice consistent with the rest of the bicycle. We are looking at an e-MTB with 170 mm of front travel, robust tires, and more than 100 Nm available in the motor, so braking capacity has taken priority over the pursuit of the minimum possible weight.
