Double shorts and one broken, the story of the outfit with which Vingegaard won
The image of Jonas Vingegaard crossing the finish line in the fourth stage of the Paris-Nice 2026 not only drew attention for his victory in Uchon. It also did so for an unusual outfit that quickly generated comments during the broadcast and on social media. The Danish rider rode for a good part of the day with what appeared to be a torn over-short.
A "double" and torn short that surprised the peloton
The harsh weather conditions that accompanied the stage, including rain, crosswinds, and low temperatures, forced the riders to seek improvised solutions to protect themselves from the cold. In the case of the leader of Visma Lease a Bike, the solution ended up being one of the most curious images of the day.
When Vingegaard took off his rain jacket during the race, it became clear that he was wearing two pairs of shorts layered on top of each other. The upper one, moreover, was above the jersey, giving the impression that the Danish rider had improvised his outfit in the middle of the stage.
The scene generated all kinds of comments during the race, but it was hours later that we learned the explanation. According to information from the environment of Victor Campenaerts, it was the Belgian cyclist himself who helped prepare the garment before the start.

Campenaerts had manually removed the padding from a long short, allowing Vingegaard to place it over his regular shorts without adding a second pad. This way, the Danish rider could gain an extra layer against the cold and rain without compromising comfort on the saddle.
The modification, made shortly before the start, also explains the unusual appearance of the outfit.
The curious outfit became a small phenomenon on social media during the stage, with numerous fans commenting on the look of the new leader of the race. Vingegaard himself took the situation with humor after the finish.

The Danish rider explained that there was no time to change or remove the garment once the stage had started, even joking about the possibility of having created a new trend in the peloton.
The truth is that, beyond the aesthetic detail, the day ended up being perfect for the Visma rider who achieved the stage victory and the lead in the race.
