Demi Vollering wins the 2026 Tour de France Femmes with another masterclass in Nice

Demi Vollering has won the Tour de France Femmes 2026 in style. The Dutch rider from FDJ United-SUEZ, who started the final day with just eight seconds over Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney, did not settle for defending the yellow jersey. She attacked on the final climb to Col d’Eze, left her main rival behind, and arrived solo in Nice to secure her third stage victory and finish the Tour with a 1:18 lead in the general classification.

The final stage, 99.2 kilometers long with a start and finish in Nice, was designed to keep the race open until the end. Four ascents to Col d’Eze and a final tougher climb of six kilometers at 7.6% offered Niewiadoma a last chance to recover the eight seconds that separated her from the yellow jersey.

Niewiadoma tries, but Vollering shows she has more

The race started directly uphill, and CANYON//SRAM made it clear early on that they were not going to wait passively for the final climb. Zoe Bäckstedt did a tremendous job in the early laps, increasing the pace and gradually reducing the group of favorites.

The wear took significant consequences. Marlen Reusser, third in the general classification at the start of the day, began to suffer during the second ascent to Col d’Eze and lost contact with the best. Shortly after, she also suffered a fall on the descent that definitively ended her chances of reaching the final podium.

This setback allowed Elisa Longo Borghini to start thinking about the third position in the general classification, while the duel between Vollering and Niewiadoma continued ahead.

Isabella Holmgren tried to anticipate with a solo attack during the penultimate lap and enjoyed around a minute lead, but FDJ United-SUEZ kept the situation under control before the final ascent.

The final Col d’Eze definitively decides the Tour

Niewiadoma faced the final climb with Antonia Niedermaier working alongside her and quickly launched her attack.

The Polish rider accelerated on the steepest slopes, but Vollering responded without apparent difficulties. Far from just following her, the Dutch rider then moved to the front and began to set her own pace.

Three kilometers from the summit, Vollering tried for the first time, although Niewiadoma managed to stay on her wheel. The gap came shortly after, in the last kilometer of the climb. Vollering accelerated again, and this time Niewiadoma could not respond.

The leader quickly opened a gap of twenty seconds and crested alone. In the descent, she continued to increase the difference while Niewiadoma ended up waiting for the chasing group, which included Longo Borghini, Paula Blasi, Niamh Fisher-Black, Isabella Holmgren, and Niedermaier.

With ten kilometers to go, the lead was already around 30 seconds. Shortly after, it reached a minute.

Third stage and second Tour for Vollering

Vollering was able to enjoy the last kilometers towards the Promenade des Anglais. After starting the day defending only eight seconds, she ended up turning the final stage into another demonstration of superiority.

The Dutch rider crossed the finish line solo with a time of 2:44:43 and achieved her third stage victory in this edition, after also winning in Belleville-en-Beaujolais and on the penultimate day in Nice.

Paula Blasi was second at 1:04, and Niewiadoma finished third with the same time. Niamh Fisher-Black took fourth place, and Antonia Niedermaier was fifth.

Demi Vollering wins her second Tour de France Femmes

With her display in the final stage, Vollering finishes the Tour with a total time of 30:54:51 and a final lead of 1:18 over Niewiadoma.

The Polish rider, winner at Mont Ventoux and leader for one day, finishes second. Elisa Longo Borghini takes advantage of Reusser's problems to climb to the third step of the final podium, at 4:29 behind Vollering.

Antonia Niedermaier finishes fourth at 5:10, and Paula Blasi completes the top five at 6:13.

Thus, Vollering conquers her second Tour de France Femmes after the one achieved in 2023. She does so after a race that changed leaders several times and a final weekend in which she was unbeatable: she won both stages in Nice, donned the yellow jersey on Saturday, and finished sealing the race on Sunday by attacking the only rival who could still take it from her.
