David Valero wins La Tramun and is crowned 2026 XCM World Cup Champion

David Valero has closed his first season focused 100% on XCM in style. The cyclist from Baza has won La Tramun in Girona and with this victory, he also secures the overall classification of the XCM World Cup 2026.

David Valero arrived in Girona as the leader of the World Cup with a 75-point lead over Wout Alleman, his main rival for the overall title. A situation that could invite a conservative race, keeping an eye on the Belgian's position, but the Spaniard had already warned before the start that his plans were different. He was not going to race to secure the championship. He wanted to win La Tramun. And that is exactly what he did.

Valero set out ready to contest the victory from the start and for a good part of the race shared the lead with Andreas Seewald, who arrived in Girona after being crowned world champion of XCM just a few days ago in San Martino di Castrozza.

Both were protagonists at the front until Valero decided to break the race definitively. The Baza native launched a change of pace in the final part and managed to break away solo to face the last kilometers with an advantage. There was no option to catch him.

Valero crossed the finish line of La Tramun in first position with a time of 4:32:00, ahead of 2:13 of Andreas Seewald. Eskil Evensen-Lie completed the podium at 5:25, while Samuele Porro was fourth. Wout Alleman, the only rider who could still take the overall title before the start, finished fifth at 9:28.

Three victories and two podiums in his first year fully dedicated to XCM

The victory in Girona also serves to confirm David Valero as the overall winner of the XCM World Cup 2026. He does so in his first season fully dedicated to Marathon and after completing a campaign in which he has achieved three victories and two other podiums in the World Cup. A balance that explains why he arrived at the last event dressed as leader and today capped it off in the best possible way.

The triumph comes just a few days after one of the most challenging moments of his season.

Valero started in the XCM World Championship in San Martino di Castrozza as one of the main candidates for the rainbow jersey, but his chances practically disappeared at the beginning of the race. A flat tire on the first climb forced him to stop and make the repair himself, losing a huge amount of time compared to the leaders.

Despite this, he staged a great comeback to finish 11th, although already without real chances of contesting the medals in a race that ended up being won by Andreas Seewald.
