Competition gravel arrives at Orbea with the new Terra Race

After the presentation a few days ago of their new Terra, with a versatile approach, we were somewhat puzzled by this choice when practically all brands are putting specifically designed models for competition gravel in their catalogs, a segment that is increasingly popular and has caused the discipline to become more segmented. Now Orbea takes us out of our perplexity by presenting the Terra Race, a bike, indeed, created to perform at its best in gravel races.

The new Orbea Terra Race carries competition in its veins

The new Orbea competition gravel bike has not been long in coming. Just a few days after the introduction of the new Orbea Terra, the Mallabia brand surprises us with the model called Terra Race aimed at seeking maximum performance in competitions of this type.

A performance that starts with the manufacturing of its frame using the same OMX carbon as its top-of-the-range Orca road bikes, the stiffest and lightest carbon that Orbea has in its arsenal. However, although stiffness is important when talking about a competition bike, in the case of gravel, comfort is also important. Therefore, Orbea has had to be precise in the layup of its frame, especially in the rear part to achieve a certain degree of vertical flexion that guarantees sufficient absorption of the vibrations coming from the terrain.

Despite being a competition gravel bike, this Orbea Terra Race does not differ much externally from the Terra we knew a few days ago. Just a few changes in the geometry, longer and lower to adapt to the competitor's needs and small tweaks in the seat tube, which extends slightly towards the rear and has an integrated closure, although the seatpost remains round, to add a small aerodynamic gain. The rest of the necessary aerodynamic features for competition are achieved, in addition to the internal cabling, by mounting the integrated OC SH-RA10 Aero Cockpit handlebar or the Oquo RP50LTD wheels that Orbea also presented a few weeks ago.

The use of OMX carbon and the meticulous design of its layup have made the frame of this Orbea Terra Race weigh in at 910 g, 300 grams less than its predecessor.

Regarding tire clearance, an aspect that has gained relevance in the latest gravel bikes, Orbea settles for a conservative 45 mm, a figure that seems scarce as the trend is moving towards accepting tires of 50 or more. Of course, it has a UDH type derailleur hanger to be able to mount SRAM 13-speed transmissions and, also, perhaps because of this tire clearance figure, it has a front derailleur mount if we opt for a 2x transmission.

Like all top-of-the-range Orbea bikes, this Terra Race is part of the MyO customization program with which you can design a decoration to your liking and choose each of the components of the bike from Orbea's varied offer.
