Colnago launches its prestigious C68 with caliper brakes
The Colnago C series is the model that best captures the essence of the brand from Cambiago, remaining in its catalog since the founding of the brand in 1954. In its latest available version, the C68, all the tradition of Colnago is honored with a bike that combines sportiness, traditional manufacturing through lugs, and the option of having a custom-made frame. Now, also with caliper brakes to satisfy the most classic cyclists.
Caliper brakes remain alive at the highest level in the Colnago C68
Disc brakes, as it was foreseeable when they began to be introduced to the market, have gradually taken over road bikes. In the high and mid-range today, all models from the most famous brands are manufactured exclusively for this braking system. In the entry-level range, there are still some models with caliper brakes, although fewer and fewer, so it is necessary to resort to minority or artisanal manufacturers if we want a new bike with this traditional braking system.

That is why Colnago's decision to offer the option of choosing caliper brakes among the options for its C68 is surprising. An alternative made possible because the C68 frame, manufactured entirely at its headquarters in Cambiago with Colnago's best technology, is made using the traditional system of lugs and tubes that are joined together, which also allows for a custom-made C68. And that, with the different evolutions of the series, more and more parts of the bike are manufactured in a monocoque block.
The C68 frame for rim brakes has double pivot anchors to achieve the highest possible efficiency when stopping the bike with this system. Fortunately, Shimano still maintains this type of brakes in the latest version of its Dura-Ace R9200 group. In Campagnolo, their 12-speed Super Record EPS group, the previous version that the brand still keeps in the catalog, also had the option of caliper brakes. While in SRAM, you can only resort to old groups that may be available from a distributor since the current ones are only produced for disc brakes.
By the way, it is worth mentioning that the Colnago C68 is only compatible with electronic groups, so the choice of group to mount it is further reduced. A frame that includes details such as 3D printed titanium dropouts and is only available as a frame, fork, seatpost option with a price of €6,750.
