Castelli returns to the Tour de France yellow jersey 33 years later
The scorpion from Castelli will once again shine on the yellow jersey of the Tour de France starting in 2027. The historic Italian brand has signed a six-year agreement with ASO to replace Santini as the official supplier of the leader jerseys for its main competitions. A return that revives a historic relationship with the French race, especially remembered for the victories of Greg LeMond and Miguel Indurain.
The scorpion from Castelli returns to the Tour de France
Castelli has officially announced its return to the Tour de France as the supplier of the jerseys for the various classifications. The Italian brand, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2026, will once again dress the overall leader 33 years after its logo last appeared on the yellow jersey, in 1994.
The agreement with Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) will come into effect in 2027 and will last for six years. During that period, Castelli will design and manufacture the leader jerseys for 27 races and events, including the Tour de France, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the Vuelta a España, and the Paris-Nice. The collaboration also includes events aimed at amateur cyclists, such as L'Étape du Tour and the Paris-Roubaix Challenge.
With this move, the Italian brand replaces Santini, which has been the official supplier of the Tour jerseys for the last five seasons.

The relationship between Castelli and the Tour de France dates back to 1989, when the brand began making the jerseys for the different classifications. A collaboration that lasted until 1994 and coincided with one of the most memorable eras in cycling.
Greg LeMond won the Tours of 1989 and 1990 wearing the yellow of Castelli, while Miguel Indurain conquered his first four consecutive Tours, from 1991 to 1994, wearing the jerseys of the Italian brand.

In those years, riders like Laurent Fignon, Pedro Delgado, Gianni Bugno, Claudio Chiappucci, and Sean Kelly also stood out, protagonists of an era that Castelli remembers as one of the most important in its history.
Under the direction of Maurizio Castelli, the brand focused on combining technical innovation and design. A philosophy that even introduced contemporary art into the Tour de France through designs by the Italian artist Mario Schifano.
However, shortly after that collaboration ended, the company went through one of its most difficult periods. Maurizio Castelli passed away suddenly in 1995 at the age of 47, and the company eventually declared bankruptcy in 2003. That same year, the Cremonese family and MVC Group acquired the brand and began a reconstruction phase.
More than three decades after its last appearance in the Tour, Castelli is reclaiming one of the most emblematic collaborations in its history.
The new yellow jersey will be presented on October 22
The return of Castelli will have its first public presentation on October 22, 2026, during the presentation event of the route of the Tour de France 2027 in Paris.
It will be then that the design of the new yellow jersey will be unveiled. To learn about the versions of the green jersey for regularity, the polka dot jersey for the mountains, and the white jersey for the best young rider, we will have to wait for later dates.
The Italian brand has recent experience in making leader jerseys, having worked for the Giro d'Italia, in addition to dressing the Soudal Quick-Step team.
Steve Smith, global head of Castelli, has highlighted the importance of the agreement for the company:
"For a global cycling brand, making the yellow jersey of the Tour de France is the greatest honor possible, not to mention the jerseys of other major races like Paris-Nice and the Vuelta."
Smith has also described this return as a homecoming and noted that the goal is to leverage the brand's technical expertise to develop garments that enhance performance, comfort, and design.
In 2027, the scorpion will return to the yellow jersey of the Tour de France for the first time since Miguel Indurain won his fourth consecutive title in 1994.
