Blummenfelt no longer wants to win the Tour de France
After the fiasco in the triathlon test of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, bull Kristian Blummenfelt changes plans regarding switching to the road with the goal of winning the Tour de France in 2028. News that emerged before the Olympic event after statements from his coach Olav Aleksander Bu detailing the entire plan to achieve this ambitious goal. Now, the Norwegian sets his sights on trying to redeem himself at the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
New change of plans for Kristian Blummenfelt: Los Angeles 2028 Objective
“Despite the results in Paris, after the race we have confidence that it is possible to return from the Ironman to the Olympic Games. We want to try it again”, declared Olav Aleksander Bu, coach of Kristian Blummenfelt after failing to defend his Olympic title in the Paris event where the Norwegian achieved a discreet 12th place, pointing out that the focus is now on the Los Angeles 2028 event.
The plan to switch to road cycling that Bu detailed before Paris is now put on the back burner, in which he unequivocally stated that Blummenfelt could be in a position to win the Tour de France in 2028.

After these statements, speculation immediately began about Blummenfelt's signing with Jayco-AlUla based on the fact that they both share a sponsor in the cycling brand Giant and the interest shown by the team in incorporating Bu's 'Norwegian training method' with him as a coach or performance consultant. However, the Australian team quickly denied any relationship or interest in the triathlete.
But, the disappointment after the Olympic event, where they tried to demonstrate that it is possible to return from long-distance triathlon to a high-intensity discipline like Olympic distance triathlon. In fact, Blummenfelt was blunt a few days ago on his YouTube channel “Have we failed in the project? Yes, we have. When you finish 12th in Paris, you are failing in your project to return to the short distance. That is the harsh reality”.
Blummenfelt continued with self-criticism after the Olympics, commenting that “we have to be honest, the decisions we made regarding training in the last 12 months were not good enough. It was good enough to be in shape for an Ironman but it was in the wrong direction” referring to the victory that the Bull achieved three weeks after the Games at the Ironman Frankfurt.
This new goal of thoroughly preparing for the triathlon at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games implies, in principle, giving up competing in road cycling for Kristian Blummenfelt since, in four years, the famous triathlete will be 35 years old, an age at which such a drastic change of discipline seems impossible, especially if the goal is to face the Tour de France.
