"At some point you have to rest": Pidcock could skip the CX season
For the second consecutive winter, we could have a cyclocross season without Tom Pidcock in the races, as the British cyclist's calendar becomes increasingly demanding and focused on road cycling.
Cyclocross, increasingly difficult to fit into Tom Pidcock's intense schedule
In statements to the Dutch media Wielerflits, the performance manager of Team Q36.5, Kurt Bogaerts, hinted that this year we will also not be able to enjoy Tom Pidcock's skill and explosiveness in cyclocross races.
If last winter the team change after his abrupt departure from INEOS Grenadiers and subsequent arrival at Q36.5, along with the desire to have a good preseason to perform at his best in the new team, were the main reasons that led Tom Pidcock to skip his usual cyclocross campaign, this year his return to the mud discipline becomes complicated again after an intense season and the change in mentality that the podium at La Vuelta has meant for Pidcock.

As Kurt Bogaerts confessed when asked about Pidcock's presence in CX races, a brief “I'm not going to make definitive statements, but at some point you have to rest” made it clear that we will not see the British rider on the cyclocross bike this winter either.
If we look at the just concluded season, Pidcock started, already in top form, at the end of January in the AlUla Tour, where he achieved victory, and plans to end his 2025 season at Il Lombardia on October 11, leaving little time to rest after the season and fit in cyclocross.
A season in which road cycling has gained prominence in Pidcock's program, who even gave up the MTB World Championship to compete at the highest level in La Vuelta. In fact, despite the importance that mountain biking has always had for Pidcock, this season he has barely been seen, participating only in the European Championship race and the Andorra World Cup event in July.
In any case, Bogaerts does not rule out the possibility of Pidcock being at the CX World Championships in Hulst and in some more races in January and February, although the loss of ranking due to irregular competition may mean starting from behind and having to make a forced comeback.
