Andri Frischknecht announces his retirement from the World Cup but will remain with SCOTT-SRAM

Andri Frischknecht has announced that he is ending his stage as a professional World Cup racer. The Swiss rider thus closes a long career at the highest level, practically entirely linked to SCOTT-SRAM, but he will not distance himself from the team or competition.

After a brilliant junior stage, Andri Frischknecht made the leap to higher categories and has been one of the regular riders in the XCO World Cup for years. A long and consistent career that has taken place alongside SCOTT-SRAM and is now coming to an end.

Frischknecht has also been part of the team during one of its most successful stages. With Nino Schurter as a great reference and teammate, SCOTT-SRAM became the structure that dominated XCO over the last decade. Andri never achieved the results of his teammate, but he managed to stay competing at the highest level for years, setting his own goals within a team accustomed to fighting for victories.

“The time has come to close a chapter and leave professional competition in the World Cup”, Frischknecht explained in his farewell. “Some years were very successful, others not so much, but I always maintained the same mentality: to give everything I had”.

His decision also comes amid a renewal of SCOTT-SRAM. Following Nino Schurter's retirement last year, the team has been incorporating a new generation of riders with names like Fabio Püntener, Filippo Colombo, and Bjorn Riley.

But Andri Frischknecht is not leaving SCOTT-SRAM. The Swiss will remain linked to the structure that his father, Thomas Frischknecht, founded and continues to lead. From now on, he will take on new roles within the staff.

“I say goodbye to professional competition, but certainly not to mountain biking. I will still be around and continue to be part of this sport, just no longer as a professional racer”, he explains.

Additionally, Frischknecht plans to occasionally wear a race number. He has already indicated that, as long as his new responsibilities allow, he will compete in some gravel and marathon events.

Andri thus closes his stage in the World Cup, but he will continue to be part of the paddock and SCOTT-SRAM from a new role.
