Agile and powerful with the latest from Avinox and RockShox: this is the Megamo Reason CRB 02

Within the new Megamo Reason 2027 range, the CRB 02 assembly occupies an interesting position. It is not the top of the range; that title belongs to the CRB 00 at €13,999, but it is a very interesting assembly that well represents the philosophy of the new Reason. It is a powerful and agile eMTB, among other things, thanks to the latest from RockShox with LinearXL technology and the Avinox M2S motor.

The Megamo Reason CRB 02 finds the balance with the latest from Avinox and RockShox

We cannot deny that the great technological leap of this generation of Reason is the combination of a very successful frame design with the new Avinox M2S.

An unrivaled electric system

The Avinox M2S is the most powerful model from the brand to date and is a direct evolution of the previous system. It offers a motor torque of up to 130 Nm in normal mode and 150 Nm in Boost mode, a peak power of 1,300 W, and an assistance ratio of up to 800%. The motor weighs 2.6 kg, with an increase of less than 100 grams compared to the previous version. But beyond the numbers, the focus has been on reducing noise, vibrations, and pedaling resistance. It also introduces flat wire technology, which improves energy efficiency and power delivery. Compared to other systems on the market, the M2S significantly surpasses peak power compared to motors like the Bosch Performance Line CX.

The system is completed with an integrated 800 Wh battery, a 2-inch OLED touchscreen, GNSS and 4G connectivity, and Bluetooth and ANT+ compatibility. The CRB 02 includes the 12A Avinox fast charger.

Linear XL: the latest from RockShox

The Rockshox ZEB represents the high end of its range for 2027. With 38mm stanchions, it is designed for enduro, bike parks, and e-MTB, where the priority is stiffness, precision, and the ability to absorb large impacts at high speeds.

As we mentioned, this fork uses 38 mm stanchions, which represents a clear leap in stiffness compared to the Lyrik, which has 35 mm stanchions, and the Reason CRB 02 features the 160 mm version for 29".

The big news is the new LinearXL chamber. RockShox abandons the classic marked air progression to seek a much more linear and predictable curve. The redesign includes a smaller diameter piston, an increase in the volume of the negative chamber, and a larger, hollow air shaft. All this requires working with higher pressures but allows the fork to be more sensitive at the start, maintain better support in the mid-stroke, and control the end of the stroke with more precision. The goal is to bring the behavior of air closer to that of a spring while maintaining adjustability. Along with LinearXL comes the new Charger 3.2 cartridge, specifically tuned to work with the new air system, providing more control in the mid-stroke and better management of repeated impacts. Additionally, the ZEB debuts a new structural platform with a redesigned crown, wider and stiffer, which improves the connection between the stanchions and the head tube.

In line with the Zebra, the Vivid shock positions itself as the shock oriented towards more aggressive use, including enduro, e-bike, and downhill. In the Reason CRB 02, it is mounted in a 210 x 55 mm size, and also includes the new LinearXL air system, which offers the same more linear and predictable behavior throughout the stroke. In this shock, RockShox has also introduced a new Base Valve, a key piece within the hydraulic circuit that regulates how oil flows inside the shock. With it, the brand has managed to reduce internal forces of the IFP by 40%, the internal piston that separates oil from air. This clearly improves sensitivity to small impacts without losing stability when the load increases. It also incorporates the Adjustable Bottom Out (ABO) system, which allows adjusting compression in the last 20% of the stroke via an external dial with 5 positions. In the Ultimate version, which the Reason mounts, the shock has independent high and low-speed compression adjustment, as well as a numbered dial that facilitates tuning.

An assembly that meets expectations

The rest of the assembly of the Reason CRB 02 is equally impressive, and in the transmission, we find the SRAM S1000 Eagle AXS T-Type 12-speed, with AXS POD levers, Eagle T-Type Avinox 36T chainring on SRAM X0 Eagle 165 mm cranks, and XS-1270 cassette of 10-52T. A great choice when looking for precision and durability.

Braking power is more than sufficient with the brakes being SRAM Maven Ultimate with Galfer Shark 203 mm discs on both axles. And for the wheels, there is also a focus on durability and handling with the DT Swiss H 1900 Spline, featuring a 30 mm Tubeless ready aluminum rim and 370 Ratchet LN hub with 18 teeth. The tires are Maxxis Assegai 29x2.5 DD 3C MaxxGrip in the front and Maxxis Minion DHR II 29x2.4 DD 3C MaxxTerra in the rear, both with Double Down casing.

The dropper post is a RockShox Reverb AXS 31.6 mm. The handlebar is a Race Face ERA carbon 35 x 800 mm with 20 mm rise, mounted on a Satori Ursa 35 x 35 mm stem. The saddle is a Fizik Terra Aidon X5 145 mm.
