A new Shimano electronic groupset for MTB could be imminent according to several leaks
A patent that Shimano published less than a year ago hinted that the Japanese company was working on a new completely wireless electronic group. Now, it seems that the arrival of a new XTR may be imminent after the leak of images of the new group on the well-known Weight Weenies forum.
Shimano is finalizing its new XTR, which seems to be 100% wireless
It has happened again. The first images of the new Shimano XTR have been leaked on an online store, and as usual, there is always someone who manages to get hold of those images before the site realizes the mistake and removes them.
And what this leak reveals is what we could already expect, first because of the direction their road groups were taking, where communication between shifters and derailleurs is done wirelessly despite still maintaining a single central battery, wired to both derailleurs.

In the case of mountain bikes, where the single chainring is fully established in high-end groups, this configuration made no sense and, as expected, Shimano's new electronic group will be completely wireless, as confirmed by the patents published by the brand in April of last year.
From what can be seen in the leaked photos, it practically matches the general design lines seen in the patents, with a quite bulky rear derailleur that apparently houses the battery inside, not attached externally like SRAM does.
This leak also revealed the spectacular 4-piston brakes that come with the group and a set of cranks with a very clean and elegant design.
