A cyclist from Decathlon CMA-CGM is fined €200 for training with headphones in Alicante
A few days ago, the young Norwegian, signed for 2026 by Decathlon CMA-CGM, Johannes Staune-Mittet, posted on Strava related to that day's training an image of the fine imposed on him by the Civil Guard for something too common among cyclists, as well as risky, which is riding with headphones while listening to music.

Johannes Staune-Mittet receives a €200 fine for violating Spanish traffic legislation
We are too accustomed to seeing professional cyclists breaking traffic rules as if they do not apply to those who ride on the roads: running red lights, recording videos while riding using a mobile phone, or using headphones are some of the most common infractions committed by cyclists, which are often used as a weapon by those drivers who show animosity towards the presence of cyclists on the roads.
A few months ago, a video of Kern Pharma cyclist Kiko Galván caused great controversy, showing the cyclist jumping from one side to the other of a median on a busy road in Catalonia, which ended with the termination of his contract by his team.

Now it has been Johannes Staune-Mittet, recently signed by Decathlon CMA-CGM, who has reignited the debate on compliance with traffic rules by posting on his Strava account that he had been fined for using headphones while training. The Norwegian took it with good humor and titled his activity with a terse “I guess it’s better to buy a pair of those ugly external headphones than to be fined for wearing AirPods every day.”
A fine that carries a penalty of €200, which can be reduced to €100 if paid promptly.
It is worth noting that the fine occurred on the roads of the province of Alicante, the epicenter of world cycling during these months, as it is the place chosen by most professional teams for their winter training due to the good weather prevailing in the area throughout practically the entire winter and the variety of roads and hard terrain available for all types and levels of training.

These professionals also tend to enjoy training in Spain due to the safety offered by its roads when we consider the accident rates, which are clearly lower than in other European countries such as Italy, France, Belgium, or the Netherlands.
We remind you that bicycles, legislatively in Spain, are considered vehicles for all intents and purposes, with their obligations and rights on the road. The prohibition of riding with headphones extends to all who use a vehicle on the road due to the danger it poses by significantly losing situational awareness. On a bike, the sense of hearing is essential for the cyclist's safety, allowing them to be aware at all times of the vehicles in their surroundings.
