Third victory for Wout van Aert in La Vuelta 2024, today in a breakaway

Beautiful stage in Galician lands to start the second week of La Vuelta a España 2024 where a tremendous battle for the breakaway of the day was experienced. A high-level escape in which Wout van Aert returned and this time it did come to a successful conclusion with the predictable outcome when a monster of the category of the Belgian is in a group, a new victory for him and sensations that seem better every day towards the Zurich World Championships.

The second week of La Vuelta 2024 starts with an entertaining stage in Galicia

Stage 10 in La Vuelta a España 2024 that left the scorching south to pedal through Galician lands with temperatures that have been a real balm for the peloton. A day with the Rías Baixas as a backdrop that united Ponteareas and Baiona in a typical Galician route with rolling terrain and no less than 4 ascents. The first of them, Fonfría, practically at the start and the last three: Vilachán, Mabia, and Mougás chained in the last third of the race.

A perfect scenario for a high-level breakaway to successfully culminate the day, so the search for this conditioned the start with a war of attacks and counterattacks that would last more than 60 kilometers until finally a group was able to consolidate with Marc Soler, Juri Hollmann, William Lecere, Quentin Pacher, and Wout van Aert.

This time, none of them were close in the general classification to worry the favorites, so the weight of the stage fell on Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale, which let them go without any concern beyond leading the pace of the group, so from that moment on, the race proceeded smoothly for Ben O'Connor. They only tried to test what faces the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe saw at the beginning of the ascent to Mabia, although, after not seeing weaknesses, they lifted the foot to give the spotlight back to the French team.

In the breakaway, Wout van Aert solved the situation in a totally masterful way. Between the last two climbs, Mabia and Mougás, was the bonus sprint of the day and, of course, he is the wearer of the green jersey. He took advantage of the fact that Marc Soler, perhaps the cyclist in the leading group who could most worry him, dropped back to the car to grab bidons, to attack. Apparently only to get the points but he didn't stop.

The only one who saw the move was Quentin Pacher who managed to reach the wheel of the Belgian and both began to make their way up the climb to Mougás that began immediately after the sprint. Pacher's commendable attitude, who, despite knowing that he had no chance against Van Aert, spared no effort to consolidate the breakaway. He tried unsuccessfully to change the pace halfway up the climb and in the last kilometers but Wout van Aert has better legs every day and is once again the formidable cyclist who amazed us a couple of years ago, being one of the few capable of fighting face to face with his archrival Van der Poel.

With this scenario, the sprint was nothing more than a mere formality in which the Frenchman started first and Wout van Aert overtook with insulting ease to celebrate his third victory in La Vuelta 2024.
