We tested the Gobik X, the shorts that eliminate everything unnecessary

Road 24/04/26 11:24 Migue A.

We tested the new Gobik X shorts, a model weighing 158 grams with a K10 Graphene chamois that benefits from all the experience and technology of the brand to offer a precise and lightweight fit without the need for added features.

We tested the Gobik X: a pair of shorts that takes technical minimalism to the extreme

The X family represents Gobik's most refined line for road cyclists, and its philosophy is to eliminate everything that is not strictly functional, reduce weight wherever possible, and rely on the pattern and high-end fabrics for comfort, not on added reinforcements.

The X shorts position themselves as one of the most interesting options in the catalog for intensive use in warm seasons, and we have tested them for several weeks on rides ranging from 2 to 6 hours, with temperatures fluctuating between 16 and 32 °C, combining road and some fast gravel sections.

Gobik can boast about the design and construction of these shorts

The detail that most differentiates the X shorts from a conventional pair is the almost total absence of seams and, above all, the elimination of the inner silicone band on the legs. This would not be possible without the design of the pattern itself and the perfect combination of fabrics.

The leg openings are finished with a raw cut, relying on the pattern and the elasticity of the fabric for grip. For cyclists who know what the silicone mark feels like after several hours of riding, this detail is noticeable from the first long ride.

The main fabric is DUALKNIT PRO, a double circular knit in polyamide with a good balance between elasticity, breathability, and quick drying. It has OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 class I certification, which makes it suitable for contact with sensitive skin.

The straps also feature a raw cut without seams and include a thermally sealed central opening on the back that helps dissipate heat when intensity increases. The shoulder straps incorporate graphene thread, a material that Gobik has been using for its thermoregulating and antibacterial properties, which translates into a very lightweight garment even with a baselayer underneath during real use.

All this choice of patterns and fabrics leaves the shorts weighing 158 grams in size M, a truly low figure for a pair of shorts that features a long-distance chamois.

K10 Graphene Chamois: the heart of the shorts

These shorts include the K10 Graphene chamois. A model developed exclusively by Elastic Interface® for Gobik that combines foams of different densities with elastic memory and a central anatomical channel designed to reduce pressure on sensitive areas and promote blood flow. The upper fabric features graphene thread, which provides antibacterial properties and helps control moisture.

Within the Gobik catalog, the K10 is the best option for most cyclists, positioned in a comfort range of up to 6 hours. Gobik also has one with more padding, the G10, but it is intended for ultra-distance and can become uncomfortable if you are not going to spend more than 10 hours on the bike.

Real sensations on the road after several weeks of use

After hours of pedaling with them, the best thing we can say is that you quickly forget you are wearing them.

The first positive surprise comes with the fit. Despite the absence of silicone on the legs, the grip is firm and stable. There is no upward movement of the leg during standing sprints or maintained aerodynamic positions. The pattern is really well resolved, and the elasticity of the DUALKNIT PRO does the rest.

The seamless straps and the thermally sealed opening perform well without generating pressure points on the shoulders, even when combined with very tight jerseys. Thermal management is clearly one of the strong points: the 15-35 °C range indicated by Gobik fits quite well with reality. Below 16-17 °C, it starts to feel short without added leg warmers; above 32-33 °C, it continues to perform because the breathability of the fabric is very high, and there are no areas that retain moisture.

The K10 chamois performs without question in the range for which it is designed. On a 4-5 hour ride, it remains stable, with no hot spots and support that does not degrade over time.

These shorts have quickly become one of those garments you reach for first in the closet when you have to choose, but the raw cut and absence of seams also come at a cost. And that is that it is a garment that requires special care when washing. Cold water, inside out, no fabric softener, no dryer, and preferably in a laundry bag. These seem like the typical recommendations from any manufacturer, but in this case, poor treatment can compromise the elasticity and durability of the raw cut prematurely. It is a premium garment that demands premium care.

What you will definitely like

  • Firm grip without silicone: the raw cut holds well and does not mark the thigh.
  • Very low weight (158 g) without sacrificing a serious long-distance chamois.
  • Very comfortable straps thanks to the raw cut, the straps with graphene, and the thermally sealed opening.
  • Excellent thermal management across the entire 15-35 °C range.
  • The chamois is among the best on the market.
  • Finishes and construction on par with the high-end competition.

What you should keep in mind

  • Very tight fit: check the size guide if you are coming from a regular cut.
  • Delicate washing is mandatory to preserve the raw cut of the legs.
  • For more than 7-8 hours, the G10 chamois from the GRIT is a better option. So think about how many rides you have done that are longer than 8 hours.

Who is it for and is it worth the €150?

The X shorts are priced at €150 in any of their colors, available for men and women, and are designed for the cyclist who values lightness, a racing fit, and stable comfort over several hours. We do not believe it is a garment for the occasional cyclist or for those looking for more relaxed cuts.

So considering this context, we can say that its price of €150, which places it in the mid-high range of the market, seems very competitive given that it offers an unusual minimalist approach and a highly regarded chamois.
