Wahoo launches its first radar with rear light
Trackr Radar is the name of the new device that Wahoo has incorporated into its range, a traffic detection radar as well as a rear light with functions very similar to those of the Garmin model, pioneers in this type of devices and that increases the offer of this type of radars that improve the safety of cyclists.

Trackr Radar, Wahoo's virtual rearview mirror
With a sleek design and a weight of just 99 g, the new Wahoo Trackr radar follows the line set by the Garmin Varia radar, the first to incorporate this type of products and followed by other brands such as Bryton that also have their own traffic detector.
The operation of the Wahoo Trackr Radar is also similar to these devices. A radar signal is emitted towards the rear that bounces off the approaching vehicle and is captured again by the Trackr. The frequency variation between the outgoing signal and the received signal, altered by the Doppler effect, is compared to calculate the distance to the vehicle where the signal bounced and the speed at which it is approaching.

With this data, a bar is shown on the cycle computer screen on the side where we would be at the top and dots along it representing the cars approaching. Obviously, to avoid detecting cyclists riding with us, the device only detects vehicles whose speed difference from ours is significant. The Trackr Radar signal has an effective range of 150 meters.
This Wahoo Trackr Radar incorporates other extra functions associated with the rear light it mounts, such as activating the flashing mode when a vehicle is detected to alert the driver of our presence, reducing the speed when there are no vehicles in the detection area to save battery. In addition, the device incorporates an accelerometer that detects when we brake, activating the rear light at maximum intensity at that moment.
Like all devices that connect to cycle computers, it uses ANT+ communication, allowing it to be used not only with Wahoo units but also with devices from other brands, including Garmin. For installation, it has the usual elastic strap attachment that allows it to be attached to the seat post, being able to disconnect it from its support using the Wahoo type mount with a quarter turn. All this in a unit that has a price of 199.99 €.
